‘Echo’ Debuts At Number 1 on Disney+ and Hulu
After releasing all five episodes of the series on Tuesday, the latest Marvel Studios streaming series, Echo, debuted at Number One on both Disney+ and Hulu.
The Hawkeye spinoff is the first Marvel Studios show to receive a TV-MA rating and the first time that an entire series premiered at the same time.
Unlike recent Marvel releases like Secret Invasion, audiences did not have to wait weeks in between episodes. Additionally, unlike other Marvel series, Echo debuted on both Disney+ and Hulu.
The Story of Maya Lopez
The new series follows the adventures of Hawkeye villain Maya Lopez as she tries to get out from under the thumb of Wilson Fisk/Kingpin.
The series is the first release under the new Marvel Spotlight banner, which the studio says will focus on more grounded, “street-level” characters.
Additionally, the series was designed to be enjoyed by fans, even if they have not kept up with the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe.
A Path Forward For Marvel?
While Echo was advertised as a limited series, the show’s success could pave the way for more “street-level” stories. It will also lead into the upcoming Daredevil:Born Again.
Following the poor reception to Secret Invasion, the studio announced that it was overhauling how it makes television shows. While Echo may be the last series created under the studio’s “old” way of doing things, it could also bridge the past and the future.
With Agatha: Darkhold Diaries up next for Marvel, the studio will look to keep its winning streak going.
