Florida House Speaker Ends Orange County Bid To Return Reedy Creek to Disney
After Orange County lawmakers hatched a plan to revert control of the former Reedy Creek Improvement District back to Disney, Florida House Speaker Paul Renner said he would not consider any changes to the district this year.
Reedy Creek, and its subsequent transformation to the governor-appointed Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD), has been at the epicenter of the ongoing feud between Ron DeSantis and the Walt Disney Company.

For his part, Renner said he supported the change from Reedy Creek to the CFTOD.
“I think we’ve gone on the right path at least. I don’t want to go back,” Renner said.
Orange County Lawmakers Wanted to Revert Control to Disney
Orange County Democrat Linda Stewart has recently sponsored a bill designed to repeal the law that created the CFTOD. Such a measure now appears dead.
Orange County Commissioner Nicole Wilson told her legislative delegation that the district has become a “pawn” in a larger battle. The turmoil over Reedy Creek, she said, has led to an exodus of district employees, including “many of the (district) divisions that did things like the public works department.”
While a legislative maneuver to revert control of the district appears dead, management of the district remains the focal point of Disney’s retaliation lawsuit against DeSantis.
