Hello everyone, and welcome back to our fun filled trip through Disney’s past! Today we are looking back at the events on this day in Disney history- November 26.
On November 26th, Disney released a cult favorite film, an entire Epcot pavilion had a surprise re-opening, and the company made a major announcement with Turner Classic Movies. So let’s hop in our Wayback Machine and get going!
Home Defense Debuts (1943)
On this day in 1943, the Donald Duck short Home Defense was released.
The cartoon stars Donald Duck as a civilian wartime aircraft spotter. When the testy duck falls asleep, Huey, Dewey and Louie trick him into thinking that the enemy is attacking.
Flubber Released (1997)
On this day in 1997, Disney’s Flubber was released.
A remake of the 1961 film The Absent-Minded Professor, the new movie stars Robin Williams and Marcia Gay Harden.
Flubber tells the story of Professor Phillip Brainard who creates a sentient green goo that he names Flubber.
Wonders of Life Reopens (2006)
On this day the Wonders of Life pavilion opened at Epcot.
The pavilion had been closed since January 2005, but nearly two years later, guest were able to ride Body Wars and Cranium Command again.
The Wonders of Life pavilion would permanently close on January 1, 2007.
Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough Reopens (2008)
On this day in 2008, The Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough reopened at Disneyland.
The iconic walkthrough attraction had been closed since the events on September 11, 2001.
On the Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough, guest explore winding passageways inside Sleeping Beauty Castle. There, various dioramas tell the story of Princess Aurora.
Disney and TCM Announce Partnership (2014)
Finally, on this day in 2014, Disney and Turner Classic Movies announced a partnership.
As part of the deal. TCM assumed sponsorship of the Great Movie Ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Furthermore, Disney agreed to provide films to to air on Turner Classic Movies under the banner Treasures from the Disney Vault.
