Adam Driver Says He’s Done With ‘Star Wars’
With the announcement that Daisy Ridley would be returning to a galaxy far, far away to reprise her role as Rey Skywalker in an upcoming Star Wars feature film, all eyes instantly turned to her sequel trilogy cast members.
At the conclusion of The Rise of Skywalker, both John Boyega’s Finn and Oscar Isaac’s Poe are alive, making them candidates to return for the film.
While the relationship between Star Wars and the two stars has been icy at best, Boyega, at least, has sounded more open to returning in recent interviews.
Adam Driver is Not Coming Back
One Star Wars sequel trilogy star who will not be returning to the franchise is Adam Driver, who portrayed Kylo Ren/Ben Solo in all three films.
Unlike Finn and Poe, Ben sacrificed himself at the end of The Rise of Skywalker to save Rey. Still, as any Star Wars fan knows, death isn’t always as final as it seems.
In a recent interview on the SmartLess podcast, however, Driver made it clear that he would not be reprising his role.
“They’re doing stuff, but not with me,” Driver said. “I’m not doing any more.”
When asked by host Sean Haynes if he was done “because the character’s done,” Driver simply replied, “Yes.”
Driver Calls Star Wars “Exhausting”
Still, when discussing his time in the iconic franchise, Driver admitted that it was not exactly a fun time in his life.
“‘Star Wars’ was way more exhausting for me … I made it more exhausting than it should have been,” Driver added. “I hadn’t quite figured out the momentum of a set that was that big before. All the things I had worked on were pretty small and moved pretty fast … The director sets the pace of the set. I don’t like to control that. I have to adjust. Spike Lee and [Steven] Soderbergh shoot really fast. For me that’s not comfortable, but it’s their movie and their film so I adjust.”
Between his struggles getting acclimated to the larger production and the re-writing of his character’s arc after signing on, it sounds like Driver isn’t fondly looking back on his time in Star Wars.
Still, as we have seen with Hayden Christensen, Ewan McGregor, and Daisy Ridley, it is never too late to come back.
Perhaps we will see Driver change his mind in the future.
