Michigan Woman Wins Walt Disney World Marathon in Her First Race
In her first-ever race, Stephanie Muscat of Grand Rapids, Michigan, took home the top place in the Walt Disney World Marathon last weekend.
Muscrat, who is originally from England, crossed the finished line with a time of 2:48:08, the next closest runner came in five minues later at 2:53:12.

The runner chose the Walt Disney World Marathon as her first marathon because she had been visiting the most magical place on earth since she was a child.
“I wanted Walt Disney World Marathon to be my first marathon because it feels like home to me here,” Muscat said after finishing the race. “I grew up coming to Disney since I was 3 or 4 years old.”

In fact, it was the allure of Disney, more so than running a marathon, that inspired Muscat to participate.

“I never thought I would run a marathon,” she said. “It was never on my list. I just love Disney. It’s like a second home, so being able to come here in win and do it in the most magical place on earth is so special.”While Muscat previously swam competitively in college, she had never dreamed of finishing a marathon. After months of training, however, she was ready.
When asked about her thoughts as she crossed the finish line, Muscat admitted it was emotional.

“I was about to burst into tears, I absolutely couldn’t believe it…I didn’t think that my legs would carry me that whole way, but I trusted the training and the process and couldn’t believe it,” she said.
A Magical Weekend
Other winners at the Walt Disney World Marathon included Vanilson Neves of Brazil, who won the race for the second time in the men’s division, and Brian Siemann of Illinois, who won the wheelchair division.

While Marathon weekend may have come to an end, there are more Disney race events on the horizon.
The Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend will be held the weekend of January 11. At Walt Disney World, the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend will occur on February 22.
