Rosario Dawson Discusses Her Emotional Reunion With Hayden Christensen on ‘Ahsoka’
For fans of a certain age, Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker IS Star Wars.
Those of us who grew up on the prequel trilogy and the subsequent Clone Wars animated series have followed Anakin’s story for decades as the franchise continued to mine the era of the Old Republic.

It was this passage of time that made Christensen’s return in Ahsoka so meaningful for fans. In many ways, it was like seeing an old friend.
Rosario Dawson Talk’s Christensen’s Return
As it turns out, it was not only fans who were delighted to see Anakin Skywalker again, but so were the cast and crew.
In an interview on the Dagobah Dispatch podcast, Ahoska star Rosario Dawson reflected on the moment she crossed lightsabers with Christensen.

“We just had so much fun,” Dawson told EW. “I tell you the entire crew made an excuse to be on set those days. It just brought tears to all of our eyes. It was wonderful. I love Hayden. He’s such a wonderful man. You know, I got to meet him and get to know him a little bit when we were younger, and I saw a lot of that journey he went through when he became a part of the series.”
Exploring New Aspects of Anakin’s Character
Anakin’s appearance in Ahsoka not only gave a glimpse of the character in a post-Return of the Jedi galaxy, but it also explored facets of Anakin’s character that we never got to see in live-action.
“Sith Anakin, we never got to see that,” she said. “We only got to see him become Darth [Vader]. We got the seeds of that a little bit in the films, but we didn’t get to sit with him for very long in that. So it was nice to see him be in the Clone Wars clothing, all of that stuff.”

Interestingly, as opposed to meeting Anakin simply as a Force ghost, Ahsoka’s main interaction with the legendary Jedi comes in the World Between Worlds.
Was Anakin Real in The World Between Worlds?
The ethereal nature of the meeting has led many to wonder if Anakin was actually present or if it was all a construction of Ahsoka’s mind. It is an ambiguity that Dawson, Dave Filoni, and executive Carrie Beck wanted to create.

“We ended up tweaking that and playing with it a little bit,” Dawson explained. “That moment with him coming out of the World Between Worlds was so significant, so it didn’t make sense to necessarily have like another dialogue scene with him — because how could you really build on that in that way? So we transformed that.”
Ultimately, the group decided to “keep that as a question mark.”

“We sort of shifted it a little bit so she was watching him as a hologram, rather than Force ghost conversation. It also makes that moment in the World Between Worlds more ephemeral, like, What was that? Is she just dreaming? Is she really talking to herself? It’s nice to keep that as a question mark.”
A Reunion is on the Horizon
While Lucasfilm has yet to announce that Ahsoka will return for a second season, Dawson remains optimistic. She is also looking forward to reuniting with her castmates here on Earth.

“We’re supposed to be having a dinner soon of the whole cast,” Dawson said, “which will be really nice because I haven’t seen everyone. I was very jealous seeing everyone at some of these cons recently, which I wasn’t able to be at. So I’m looking forward to seeing everyone.”
