What Will Disney Be Like in May 2024?
In recent years, May has evolved into one of the best times to vacation at Walt Disney World.
You’ll find smaller crowds than during the Spring Break season, at least until Memorial Day Weekend.
Afterward, Disney kicks off its summer season, a time when virtually all Disney amenities are available to guests.
What will Disney be like in May 2024? Let’s talk about what you should expect.
Visiting Disney in May
You’ll love a May visit because it’s a surprisingly slow spot on the calendar.
Each year, fans flock to the parks for Spring Break and Easter. Then, Walt Disney World tends to claim smaller crowds in May.

Easter Parade
Once we reach Memorial Day, all bets are off, as the summer theme park season unofficially begins.
Still, whether you’re visiting earlier in the month or doing the holiday week, you’ll discover plenty to see and do.

Snow White Topiary
For example, EPCOT’s oldest festival is well underway by this point.
Also, Disney typically introduces some new amenities and possibly even an attraction at this time of year.
For 2024, we may even witness new hotel rooms opening at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground.

Disney hasn’t announced a firm date yet, but the current schedule calls for an opening during the first half of the year.
Of course, anything Disney introduces for 2024 will be icing on the cake after the openings of Journey of Water | Inspired by Moana, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and Tron Lightcycle / Run.
What Kind of Weather Should You Expect in May?

Typhoon Lagoon
You probably think Central Florida will be hot and possibly rainy during your visit.
On this front, you’re mostly correct. In the contiguous United States, the average temperature for May 2023 was 62 degrees.
At Walt Disney World, the daily low temperature averages 72 degrees, which is six degrees hotter than in April.
Again, that’s the low temperature. So, those of you looking to escape the lingering remnants of a cold spring will love Orlando.

I say this because the average high temperature is 88 degrees, although that number has trended upward a couple of degrees recently.
Obviously, when we discuss averages, you’ll find weather swings, depending on when you visit.

For example, the range for the daily high temperature hovers between 78 and 93 degrees.
Meanwhile, the daily low temperature ranges between 59 and 75 degrees.

In other words, you’ll rarely encounter scorching weather in Orlando in May, nor will you suffer through a cold spell.
You should understand the weather typically grows warmer as June approaches.
Those of you visiting in late May, which is to say Memorial Day, might bump into hotter weather.
As for the rainy season, that doesn’t end in April, although it grows worse later in the month.
Earlier in May, you’ll face a 22 percent chance of rain. By the end of the month, the odds grow to 43 percent. Please pack accordingly.
For that matter, you should always remember to check the weather forecast before you travel anyway.
The weather has grown unpredictable lately, and I don’t want you to get caught flat-footed.
What Will You Find at Disney in May?
Spring at Walt Disney World can mean only one thing!
Yes, I’m referring to the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival.
This event has become the longest-running EPCOT festival, and that statement applies multiple ways.
On the one hand, the Flower & Garden Festival is the granddaddy of them all, the oldest of EPCOT’s festivals.
On the other hand, Disney has also hosted this festival for more dates than any other recently.
As an example, Disney hosted the Flower & Garden Festival for 127 days in 2023. That’s more than one-third of the entire year!

EPCOT
Park officials proudly display the horticultural marvels during this event.
The wizards at Disney somehow craft bushes and other shrubbery/plants into recognizable Disney characters and movie scenes. It’s incredible!

Lumiere and Cogsworth Topiaries
As I mentioned, the current renovations at Fort Wilderness may finish in time for your May visit.
If so, you can spend the night in one of the brand-new Cabins that Disney has completely reconstructed at Fort Wilderness in 2024.

EPCOT
You should speak with a MickeyTravels agent to learn whether these Cabins will be available for your stay. If so, you’ll be one of the first to stay here.
How big a deal is that? The last batch of Cabins lasted for almost exactly 50 years! You’d have a fun story to share with your grandkids in 2060!
What Else Can You Do in Central Florida in May?

Photo: Orlando Magic
If the season breaks right, the Orlando Magic could be participating in the NBA playoffs for the first time since, I dunno, Grant Hill was still active?
In Paulo Banchero, we trust.

Those of you who aren’t basketball fans will still find plenty to do if you’re willing to leave the Disney campus.
In fact, theme park fans may discover a new themed land opening at Universal Studios Florida.
Park officials haven’t announced a date yet, but the schedule for this one calls for an opening by summer 2024.
Broadway fans can catch a performance of Walt Disney’s favorite, Peter Pan.

The Dr. Phillips Center will host the play from May 14th through May 19th.
Also, with concerts back in force, several A-list recording acts are likely to perform in May.

In fact, Bad Bunny, arguably the biggest music act in the world today, will perform at the Amway Center on May 17th and May 18th.
Final Thoughts

Kermit and Miss Piggy Topiaries
I often practice what I preach about May vacations at Walt Disney World.
I just did a quick count, and I’ve visited the parks on six different May vacations over the past decade.

Tinker Bell Topiary
So, I go here about 60 percent of the time in May. I wouldn’t do that if I didn’t love it.
I consider May one of the best four months to visit Walt Disney World each year, along with January, September, and Halloween Week.

Again, you should speak with a MickeyTravels agent to determine the best time to visit Disney!
