PHOTOS: Refreshment Outpost is a Spicy Plant-Based Hit at the 2023 Festival of the Holidays
Is everyone enjoying the 2023 EPCOT Festival of the Holidays so far? We know we are!
Today, the most jolly of festival seasons kicked off at EPCOT for 2023, bringing with it so much joy, entertainment, merchandise, and — best of all — food! Ever since the event’s foodie guide was released at the start of the month, our mouths have been watering in anticipation of all the seasonal snacks and festive flavors.
Right now, our MickeyBloggers are over at Refreshment Outpost for our next stop on our tour of the marketplace kitchens. Come with us to see what’s cooking, and read our review of the newest offerings!
Refreshment Outpost
Unlike many of the other marketplace kitchens for the festival, which have popped up in sweet little booths around the World Showcase, Refreshment Outpost is a permanent dining location spot at EPCOT.
Nestled between the China and Germany pavilions, Refreshment Outpost is primarily a snack spot for guests looking for a quick refuel during their international adventures, however, it’s also known for its fun, seasonal offerings and limited-time festival dishes, too.
For the Festival of the Holidays, there’s a tasty line-up of wintertime treats guests can opt to try out. On the menu, we can see…
A Peanut Stew served with Sweet Potatoes, Mustard Greens, and Roasted Peanuts for $5.25. This is a returning favorite of ours, so we knew we had to give it a try!
This is actually a completely plant-based option, great for those with specific dietary restrictions and preferences. However, the first thing our reporters noticed was the portion size seemed considerably smaller than last year!
This notice aside, we must confirm that the dish is still as good as ever. The sauce is thick and just as hearty as you’d want a wintertime treat, and the flavor is also simply delicious.
It must be said however, this is one spicy dish! It packs a punch and brings the heat, so certainly one to try if you like your food on the spicy side!
Thankfully, if you’re looking for something sweet, Refreshment Outpost is also dishing up a divine DOLE Whip Raspberry treat. Sweet, tart, and very refreshing — we’re sure this will be a popular hit among guests!
Both of these menu items are returning to Refreshment Outpost for this years festival. However, when it comes to drinks at this spot, there’s only new and exciting offerings to be found…
First up is a Ciderboys Caramel Apple Hard Cider, which sounds absolutely perfect for the fall season.
Next, there’s a Cinnamon Orange Cranberry Ale, by 81Bay Brewing Co., and a Gingerbread White Stout by Ivanhoe Park Brewing Co. Both of these seem perfect for the holidays, stuffed full of Christmassy flavors!
Last up is a Pumpkin Spice Ginger Cocktail, featuring Boyd & Blair Potato Vodka. How unique and spicy does this sound?
