NEWS: Disney to Get FULL Ownership of Hulu
Disney’s been making waves in the streaming world.
Disney+, Disney’s streaming platform, has been loaded with popular, highly-viewed content since its launch in 2019. Since then, Disney has started making moves to own other streaming platforms, including Hulu. And today, in a monumental announcement, Disney has announced its intention to take full control of Hulu. Here’s what you need to know.
Disney’s Acquistion
Disney will acquire the 33% stake in Hulu previously held by Comcast. In a press release, Disney shared the following:
The acquisition of Comcast’s stake in Hulu at fair market value will further Disney’s streaming objectives.
Disney already owned a third of Hulu, ever since the company’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox. Disney’s deal with Comcast will now provide the company with full control of Hulu.
Disney is expected to pay $8.61 billion by December 1st–which will meet the floor valuation–and then go through an appraisal process to provide a final value of the streaming platform. At that point, it will be determined if (and, if applicable, how much) Disney will need to pay beyond the $8.61 billion.
Disney is anticipating that the appraisal process will be completed during the 2024 calendar year. We’ll continue to keep you updated during this process, as well as what it will mean for the future of Hulu, so stay tuned to MickeyBlog.com.
