New Emotions Will Join Joy, Sadness and Anger For ‘Inside Out 2’
When Inside Out premiered in 2015, the film captivated audiences with its moving story about the inner workings of a young girl’s mind as her family leaves behind everything she has known to move to a new town.
In the film, viewers are introduced to Riley and the basic emotions that control her actions. Inside her brain, Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust, and Anger control the young girl’s actions and help create the core memories that are sent into long-term memory each night.
The film not only told the story of a young girl struggling to adapt to her new surroundings, but it also explored the inner play between joy and sadness, the value of emotions, and the importance of mental health.
Inside Out was adored by critics and fans alike, who not only loved the more sophisticated story but also the amazing visuals, and the performance of the voice actors that included Amy Poehler as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Bill Hader as Fear, Lewis Black as Anger, and Mindy Kaling as Disgust.
Disney Announces ‘Inside Out 2’
With a bonafide hit on their hands, it was only a matter of time until Disney and Pixar made an Inside Out sequel.
At the 2022 D23 Expo, Disney announced that another Inside Out film was in development. Now with Kelsey Mann taking over from Pete Doctor as the movie’s director, Riley’s story would continue.
Well, for fans who have been waiting for years to see how Riley’s story continues, the wait is almost over. Inside Out 2 is set to hit theaters on June 14, 2024.
New Emotions Will Replace Fear and Disgust
Inside Out ended with the emotions getting a new console that allows them to all work together. However, it doesn’t sound like we will get to see this teamwork in action.
According to The Toast, Inside Out 2 will not see the return of Bill Hader’s Fear or Mindy Kaling’s Disgust as characters in the film.
Instead, Joy, Sadness, and Anger will be joined by Anxiety, Embarrassment, Ennui, and Envy as Rley’s teenage mind gets increasingly complicated.
Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling are reportedly not returning to the film due to contractual issues.
Fans will obviously be disappointed to hear that Fear and Disgust are not returning. Seeing how Riley’s original emotions interact with the new arrivals, however, will be an interesting development.
Inside Out 2 will hit theaters on June 14, 2024.
