October 27th was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured the filming of the iconic Walt Disney film, a special event at the Magic Kingdom, and the release of a popular animated sequel. So, let’s get started!
Disneyland Premieres (1954)
On this day in 1954, Walt Disney’s Disneyland series premiered on ABC.
The first Disney television series gave audiences a sneak peek at the yet-unopened Disneyland theme park. An astounding 30.8 million viewers tuned into the series’s debut episode.
Disney Films EPCOT Movie (1966)
On this day in 1966, Walt Disney filmed a television presentation previewing his plans for the Florida Project.
In the film, Walt would introduce audiences to his Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. The special would never air on TV but was instead shown to Florida officials.
Halloween Hysteria Takes Place (1979)
On this day in 1979, Halloween Hysteria took place at the Magic Kingdom.
The special hard-ticket event featured performances from The Police and Dr. Hook.
Fun with Mr. Future Released (1982)
On this day in 1982, Disney released Fun with Mr. Future.
The animated short featured parts of a shelved EPCOT TV special that was hosted by a talking Animatronic head.
On Stage at the Magic Kingdom Takes Place (1984)
On this day in 1984, On Stage in the Magic Kingdom took place.
The special event featured musical performances by Cheap Trick, New Edition, and KC & The Sunshine Band.
The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride Released (1998)
On this day in 1998, The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride was released direct-to-video.
The sequel to 1994’s The Lion King centers on Simba’s daughter Kiara who falls in love with Kovu, a male lion raised in Scar’s pride.
The Incredibles Premieres (2004)
On this day in 2004, The Incredibles premiered in London.
The Pixar film was written and directed by Brad Bird and told the story of a family of superheroes.
Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure Released (2009)
Finally, on this day in 2009, Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure was released direct-to-video.
The film was a sequel to 2008’s Tinker Bell.
