What Will Disney Be Like in April 2024
Whenever the winter semester of the school year begins, children and their parents daydream about one thing. It’s Spring Break.
During that glorious week, the snow has vanished, and the temperature has taken a turn for the better.
Of course, that’s not true everywhere in North America. Sometimes, you must escape the cold weather, even in April. And where should you go?
The answer is obviously Walt Disney World! Let’s talk about what Disney will be like in April 2024.
Visiting Disney in April
You’ll love a Disney visit in April because you’ll find so much to do.
Even better, you’ll feel like Goldilocks when you spend a few days at Disney because the temperature isn’t too warm or too cold. It’s just right!
You’ll also find plenty of park offerings, like the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival, to enjoy during your trip.
Also, Disney has introduced several new attractions over the past couple of years.
Those of you who haven’t visited in a while will be in for a treat, as you’ll discover plenty of stuff you’ve never tried before.
Something else I like about April visits is that you won’t encounter concentrated crowds often.
Since every school system celebrates Spring Break at a different time, you won’t face that single-week mob that occurs during major holidays.
Along those lines, Easter falls on March 31st in 2024. So, only a day or two from the holiday should impact April park crowds significantly.
For this reason, if you have a choice in the matter, I’d recommend April rather than March as the better month to visit.
I fully understand that some of you, especially parents of school-aged children, don’t have that option, but it’s something to keep in mind.
Let’s Talk about Orlando Weather in April
I guess I should say that there’s no one perfect month to visit Orlando, but April is…really good.
According to WeatherSpark, the average daily high temperature is 84 degrees and fairly steady at that.
Orlando’s highs rarely drop below 72 degrees or top 90 degrees.
So, you’ll rarely feel super-hot, something that I can’t really say about the summer, at least lately.
Similarly, the average daily low temperature ranges from 52 to 71 degrees on most days. Overall, the average daily low is 66 degrees.
After spending three or four months suffering through winter weather, you’d happily go somewhere with a high of 84 and a low of 66, right?!
The one catch here is that old chestnut, “April showers bring May flowers,” which is terrific in May.
In April, you’ll need an umbrella or rain slicker, though.
Weatherspark refers to Orlando in April as “constant cloud cover,” which helps to keep the temperatures in check.
However, those clouds bring rain. The odds suggest that it’ll rain at least once during a four-day Disney World visit.
So, please plan (and pack) accordingly.
What to Expect at Walt Disney World in April
I already mentioned the big thing, which is the Flower & Garden Festival.
While the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival garners more attention, Flower & Garden is actually Disney’s oldest festival.
During this event, master horticulturists trim bushes and shrubs to make them look like characters and scenes from Disney movies.
You’ll never watch Fantasia the same way again after you’ve watched those brooms in shrub form.
Similarly, Disney has created a strikingly realistic Lightning McQueen. You wouldn’t think a convincing Tree Car would be a thing, but here we are.
Just as importantly, the Flower & Garden Festival hosts Outdoor Kitchens that serve some of the tastiest, most affordable dishes in Orlando.
You’ll love the vibe and atmosphere at this event, and it’ll make you want to spend the majority of your vacation time at the World Showcase.
While you’re at EPCOT, you can experience its newest attractions, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Moana: Journey of Water.
Later, you can switch to Magic Kingdom and try out America’s hottest new roller coaster, Tron Lightcycle / Run.
Disney has also hinted at a new version of Country Bear Jamboree that might arrive by April.
Park officials haven’t stated a date yet, but the beloved attraction will change its tune with an updated soundtrack.
Disney will drop country and western classics in favor of twangy versions of songs from animated classics.
In short, you’ll discover plenty of new stuff when you visit in April.
Other Entertainment in Central Florida in April
We’re tracking some other happenings in Central Florida next year.
For starters, Universal Orlando Resort could feasibly open some new attractions by next April.
Recently, Universal introduced Minion Land and its new attraction, Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast.
Next year, an entire themed land based on DreamWorks Animation properties like Shrek and Trolls will debut. We don’t know when, though.
To a larger point, I understand that split vacations between Disney and Universal are a divisive subject, but it’s something to keep in mind.
Sports fans can also catch a handful of Orlando Magic games, as the regular season ends in April.
Given Orlando’s recent improvements, these games will likely have playoff implications.
Orlando City SC will also host some soccer matches this month as well.
As for concerts, you’ll always find several to your liking in a city as large as Orlando.
Plus, Disney Springs and Universal CityWalk Orlando frequently host live entertainment as well.
Finally, Broadway in Orlando will host the stage version of Mrs. Doubtfire from April 23rd-28th.
So, those of you who are willing to leave the Disney Bubble will find plenty to do. Is it as good as what’s at Disney? Probably not.
Final Thoughts
Again, parents of school-aged children don’t get much choice when it comes to Spring Break dates.
For everyone else, April qualifies as one of the best times to visit Walt Disney World. The crowds are manageable, and the weather is ideal.
