Vincent D’Onofrio Calms Fans Over ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Fears
Yesterday, news broke that Marvel was giving Daredevil: Born Again a complete overhaul.
The upcoming Disney+ series is set to reboot the popular Netflix series Daredevil, bringing the show’s characters into the mainline MCU.
While Charlie Cox has reprised his role as Matt Murdock/Daredevil in Spiderman: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Daredevil: Born Again was set to fully integrate Cox’s Daredevil, Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin, and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher into the MCU.
Trouble In Daredevil Land
Daredevil: Born Again was initially supposed to debut in 2023 before the show was delayed until 2024.
Following the onset of the SAG-AFTRA strike, however, the show was completely removed from Disney’s release schedule altogether.
Since that time, the series has parted ways with head writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman and is seeking new writers to take the show in a different direction.
Although less than half of the series’ 18 episodes were already shot, Ord and Corman had reportedly eschewed the dark, gritty tone of the Netflix Daredevil series and instead created a legal procedural that didn’t even see Charlie Cox suit up until the fourth episode.
With the mandatory break in production due to the Hollywood strike, Marvel executives, including Kevin Feige, viewed the completed footage and determined that the show was “not working.”
In addition to replacing Daredevil: Born Again’s head writers, Marvel has also released the show’s directors.
D’Onofrio Comments On Dardevil: Born Again Turmoil
After news of the Daredevil: Born Again overhaul came out, Vincent D’Onofrio took to X (formerly Twitter) to calm fans’ fears.
“Every cool project I’ve been involved with has evolved constantly during pre-production, production, and post. It’s just reported on these days as if it’s big news,” D’Onofrio wrote on Twitter.
“It’s not it’s simply a bunch of creatives doing their best to get it right. And It’s a constant in this business. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Frankly I’d be worried if we were settling for less. We are going to bring forward the best series we can. One we can be proud of. Have some trust, my friend, trust.”
While overhauling a show that is halfway completed is never a good sign for a studio, for MCU fans it may be just what was needed.
Marvel Studios is reportedly rethinking how it makes television, and the fact that they are retooling Daredevil: Born Again instead of canceling it altogether is good news for fans.
As of now, there is no release date for Daredevil: Born Again. Hopefully, however, the SAG-AFTRA strike will end and we will see Charlie Cox’s Daredevil again soon.
