Disney’s Lilo and Stitch Remake Shut Down Due to SAG-AFTRA Strike
Yet another Disney film has been delayed due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
Following news that Deadpool 3 was halting production, comes the news that Disney’s upcoming remake of Lilo and Stitch has also been shut down.
The live-action remake of the 2002 animated classic began filming on-location in Hawaii and was reportedly one week shy of wrapping when production ceased.
What Will Disney Do?
With shooting almost finished, Disney may have more options for Lilo and Stitch than most studios have.
One interesting option would be to finish the movie with the footage it already has.
While Lilo and Stich was originally intended as a Disney+ release, if the strikes linger on Disney will have a dearth of content available for release.
Depending on how long Hollywood is shut down, Disney may not have a choice. After all, star Maia Kealoha will only be getting older as production is paused.
When Will Lilo and Stitch Be Released?
Luckily, if Disney chooses to continue production on the film, it sounds like Lilo and Stitch is almost done.
With an expected 2024 release, fans may not have to wait long to see the film once the Hollywood strikes end.
