PHOTOS: Mural Progress & Details at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Disney World
Splash Mountain is currently undergoing a transformation to be turned into a Princess and the Frog-themed attraction in both Disney World and Disneyland. The ride will be called Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and should be completed by the end of next year.
We’ve been keeping an eye on construction regularly in the parks and have seen some exciting updates! And now, we have a closer look at a special detail coming to the ride.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Mural
We’ve got an update on the mural coming to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure! We’ve noticed that a mural is being worked on over here, and now Disney has shared some more info on the piece.
The Artist Behind the Mural
Louisiana artist Malaika Favorite is the one behind the new mural that will be seen in the queue for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure! She has taken inspiration from the murals and other artwork seen on the outside of buildings in New Orleans (where The Princess and the Frog takes place).
The mural follows the story that Princess Tiana would want New Orleans-inspired artwork to be a part of her business — Tiana’s Foods. This is a new cooperative owned by Tiana where she grows things to use in her cooking!
Disney said that when they were trying to figure out how to introduce this story in the queue, “maintaining the authenticity of Princess Tiana’s experience as a young Black woman striving to achieve her dream in the soulful backdrop of New Orleans was one of our highest priorities. It only makes sense that an extensive search for an artist who could bring our vision to life brought us to Malaika’s doorstep.”
You can find Malaika’s art in the Baton Rouge Gallery. Her collection explores the cultural heritage of African Americans and who they are as a people.
The mural will have a collage of scenes that will be seen on two of the building’s outside walls as you are moving inside in the queue. The scenes will show Tiana’s professional journey along with the creation of Tiana’s Foods.
The mural will focus around family, friends, food, music, art, and brining people together. This goes back to Tiana’s father making her promise to “never, ever lose sight of what is really important.”
Updated Progress on the Mural
We’ve seen this mural being worked on, and we noticed some exciting details today. If you look closely, you can see Louis and his trumpet!
Here’s a better look:
Here’s what this part of the mural will look like thanks to an image of the mock-up from Disney.
The bottom part of the mural on this section of the building already has color on it.
This looks like it will be the other part of the mock-up mural shared by Disney.
You can see that they’re outlining this part of the mural and will hopefully soon add some paint.
This part of the mural is located on the left side of the yellow building. This is the building you will enter into as you move through the queue.
We can’t wait to see what this looks like when it’s completed! All of that color will bring a lot of vibrancy to this attraction’s atmosphere.
Stay tuned for more Disney World news and updates!
