This Day in Disney History- October 11
Welcome back to our magical trip through the past of The Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- October 11.
October 11th was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured the dedication of an EPCOT Center pavilion, the closure of a Magic Kingdom attraction, and the loss of a Disney Legend. So, let’s get started!
Ticket Books Introduced at Disneyland (1955)
On this day in 1955, ticket books were introduced at Disneyland.
A “Day at Disneyland” contained three A, two B, and three C tickets.
Rainbow Caverns Mine Train Closes (1959)
On this day in 1959, the Rainbow Caverns Mine Train closed in Frontierland.
The attraction had opened with the rest of Disneyland in 1955.
The American Adventure Dedicated (1982)
On this day in 1982, The American Adventure pavilion was officially dedicated at EPCOT Center.
The pavilion features the groundbreaking American Adventure show which takes guests on a trip through America’s history.
The ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter Closes (2003)
On this day in 2003, The ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter closed at the Magic Kingdom.
The theater-in-the-round attraction would be replaced by Stitch’s Great Escape.
The DVC Announces Next Property (2006)
On this day in 2006, Disney Vacation Club announced it was building Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas.
A part of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, the new villas would open in 2007.
Gabby Duran & the Unsittables Premieres (2019)
On this day in 2019, Gabby Duran & the Unsittables premiered on the Disney Channel.
In the film thirteen-year-old Gabby gets a job babysitting an unruly group of VIP extraterrestrial children.
Angela Lansbury Passes Away (2022)
Finally, on this day in 2022, Angela Lansbury passed away at the age of 96.
A star of both stage and screen, Lansbury was perhaps best known by Disney fans for her performance as Eglantine Price in Bedknobs and Broomsticks and as the voice of Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast. Lansbury was named a Disney Legend in 1995.
