How One Cast Member Turned a Family Recipe Into a Magic Kingdom Dish
Walt Disney World is a place to ride world-class attractions, meet your favorite characters, and make lifelong memories. It is also a place, however, to taste amazing new flavors from around the world. From the countries of the World Showcase to fine dining at Disney Springs, Walt Disney World offers a cornucopia of flavors
In celebration of Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month, Cast Member Suni Quinones Rivera even introduced one of her family’s favorite dishes to guests visiting Cinderella’s Royal Table.

The Assistant Sous Chef blended a little bit of home into her work and whipped up a Creamy Plantain Soup that was inspired by her family’s recipe.
A Passion For Cooking
Suni’s passion for culinary arts began to stir as a kid while she watched her grandmother work her magic in her kitchen in Puerto Rico.
“I remember my grandmother making creamy plantain soup for me when I was sick – I loved it and it always made me feel better,” Suni shared.
Her grandmother’s delicious creations, and the love of cooking they instilled in her, inspired Suni to turn her passion into a career.
Disney Aspire
Driven by her passion, Suni applied to Walt Disney World, which as we know, is a place where dreams come true. As part of the Disney Aspire program, Suni was accepted into the Culinary Management program at Valencia College.

“Being part of Disney Aspire has not only taught me culinary skills, it has also helped me learn more English,” Suni says.
Achieving Her Dreams
With the support of her leaders, Suni set her sights on her next goal- to become a chef at one of Disney’s signature restaurants. Suni once again achieved her goal, showing that hard work and passion really paid off.
“My leaders encourage me and want what’s best for me – they are like my family,” Suni says.
Honoring Her Heritage
Finally, Suni was able to create a menu offering at Cinderella’s Royal Table inspired by her family recipe.
Guests visiting the Magic Kingdom can try the Creamy Plantain Soup at Cinderella’s Royal Table through October 15.
The dish is not only a crowning achievement for Suni, but it is a testament to her family’s heritage.
“If it wasn’t for my grandmother, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Knowing I can honor my grandmother’s legacy and share my Puerto Rican heritage with the world fills me with a deep sense of belonging and purpose,” Suni shares with pride. “I love that Disney is so inclusive and lets me share my culture – you don’t get to do that everywhere.”
What an amazing story, and a great way to celebrate Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month!
