Celebrate Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month With These Fantastic Programs
If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog you’ll know that Hispanic & Latin American Heritage Month kicked off on September 15, 2023. We’ve shared some of the ways that you can celebrate at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. However, for those who can’t make it to the parks, you can celebrate at home with an awesome array of programs across DIsney+ and affiliates.
Here’s a rundown of the not-to-be-missed programming for Hispanic & Latin American Heritage Month.
ABC and ABC News
Our America: Unforgettable – This hour-long special in partnership with ABC News Medical Unit, uncovers the alarming data of Alzheimer’s disease which is the 6th most common cause of death in the United States. The subject is covered through a Hispanic/Latino lens.
The Latin Music Revolution: A Soul of a National Presentation – This new one-hour event explores the massive popularity of global Latin music and the young stars who are taking the industry by storm. This special will focus on Colombian artist Karol G, whose new album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 making it the first Spanish-language album by a woman to do so. The special also focuses on artist Nicky Jam a reggaeton and Latin trap along with Afro-Colombian singer and rapper Goyo; Mexican Latin pop group RBD, Dominician American Afro-Latina singer Amara “La Negra,” legendary singer Linda Ronstadt and singer/percussionist Sheila E.
In addition Good Morning America, World News Tonight with David Muir, Nightline, GMA 3: What You Need to Know, The View, ABC News Live, ABC News Digital, and ABC News Audio will be showcasing special segments for Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month.

Disney+
Ahsoka – Starring Rosario Dawson as the former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano, the series follows the title character as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy. New episodes drop weekly through October 3rd.

Andor – Starring Diego Luna, in an era filled with danger, deception, and intrigue. Cassian Andora (Luna) will discover the difference can make in the struggle against the Galactic Empire.
Launchpad – Season 2 has arrived of this collection of live-action shorts from a new generation of dynamic filmmakers, premieres on the streaming service on September 29, 2023. In one example “Beautiful, Fl” which is directed by Gabriela Ortega and written by Joel Perez and Adrian Ferbeyre, an ice cream competition inspires a teen girl to use a flavor inspired by her late Tia Abuela’s Puerto Rican treats.
Nona – If you’re a fan of animation, you won’t want to miss the Pixar SparkShort Nona directed by Louis Gonzales. A grandmother plans to spend her day watching her favorite TV program – E.W.W Smashdown Wrestling. However, her 5-year-old granddaughter Renee is dropped off and now Nona is caught between her two favorite things. Also, don’t miss A Park Story which takes you behind the scenes of the meaning of Nona.

Elena of Avalor – Head to Disney+ for all of the episodes of this Emmy and Imagen Award-winning program. Elena (voiced by Aimee Carrero) is a brave teenager who has saved her kingdom from an evil sorceress- and has to now learn to rule as the crown princess until she is old enough to be queen.
Other noteworthy programs to watch for Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month include Moon Knight, Eternals, National Treasure: Edge of History, Encanto, and even Encanto at the Hollywood Bowl.

Disney Channel, Disney Junior, and Disney XD
Throughout the month, Disney Channel, Disney Junior, and Disney XD will be featuring episodes of much-loved programs that feature relevant episodes of various animated series for Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month. This includes Hamster & Gretel, Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, and Hailey’s On It!
Mickey Mouse Funhouse – Disney Junior will be premiering a special Dia de los Muertos episode which airs on Friday, October 6 at 10 am on Disney Channel and 12:05 pm on Disney Junior. Donald’s old pal Panchito invites the gang to celebrate Dia de los Muertos in Mexico City. Daisy is worried she may miss her beloved gran-duck who has passed away but discovers the joy in remembering those that have passed.
In another episode Me & Mickey which airs later in October, Mickey Mouse shares his favorite parts of the Dia de los Muertos celebration, sugar skulls, pan de muerto, and an ofrenda for his hamster.
ESPN+
Sports fans will want to head over to ESPN+ Mas which throughout the month will be exploring stories that elevate Hispanic athletes, fans, and communities through a celebration of sport and culture.

Flamin’ Hot – Directed by Eva Longoria, this is the inspiring story of Richard Montanez the Frito Lay janitor who turned the iconic Flamin’ Hot Cheetos into a snack that became a global pop culture phenomenon.
Only Murders in the Building – Season 3 stars Selena Gomez and will be airing on Hulu through October 3, 2023. The trio of podcasting sleuths return (Gomez, Martin Short, and Steve Martin) and are investigating a death behind the scenes of a Broadway Show.

This Fool – Back for a second season, The Fool was inspired by star and co-creator Chris Estrada’s experience of growing up in South Central L.A. After Julio’s job at “Hugs Not Thugs” blew up, new roommates Julio and Luis embark on starting Mugs Not Thugs with the help of Minister Payne.
National Geographic
Noteworthy programs to check out for Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month include Wild Chile which explores wildlife found in the desserts and hidden forests in Chile along with Latin America From Above, Lost Treasures of the Maya, Lost City of Machu Picchu, Skeletons of the Inca Rebellion, Ancient Worlds Revealed with Albert Line and Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted.
