This Day in Disney History- September 28
Welcome back to our continuing journey through the history of the Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- September 28.
September 28th was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured a preview of World Showcase, the cancellation of a planned Disney Park, and the return of Disney to Broadway. So, let’s get started!
The Clock Store Released (1931)
On this day in 1931, The Clock Store was released.
The Silly Symphony told the story of a clock store where various clocks and watches come to life after hours.
On Ice Released (1935)
On this day in 1935, the Mickey Mouse short On Ice was released.
In the cartoon, Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Donald go ice skating
Greyfriars Bobby Released (1961)
On this day in 1961, Greyfriars Bobby was released.
The film tells the story of a unique Skye Terrier named Bobby.
World Showcase Pavilions Soft Open (1982)
On this day in 1982, the Canada, China, and France pavilions had soft openings in EPCOT Center.
The World Showcase pavilions opened just days before the park’s October 1 debut.
Disney’s America Cancelled (1994)
On this day in 1994, Disney CEO Michael Eisner canceled the Disney America Project.
The new theme park would have been built in Haymarket Virginia and celebrated American history.
Grand Prix Raceway Changes Its Name (1996)
On this day in 1996, Walt Disney World’s Grand Prix Raceway changed its name.
The attraction was renamed The Tomorrowland Speedway.
The Game Plan Released (2007)
On this day in 2007, The Game Plan was released.
The film starred Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as professional football quarterback Joe Kingman, who learns he has a daughter.
The Swan and Dolphin Renovation Ends (2017)
On this day in 2017, Disney held a special ceremony to commemorate the completion of a $140 million renovation of Walt Dinsey World’s Swan and Dolphin Resorts.
During the three-year project, all guest rooms and meeting spaces were redesigned, as was the Dolphin Resort’s lobby.
Disney’s Aladdin Returns to Broadway (2021)
Finally, on this day in 2021, Disney’s Aladdin resumed performances on Broadway.
All Broadway shows had been shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
