This Day in Disney History- September 27
Welcome back to our continuing journey through the history of The Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- September 27.
September 27th was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured the release of a Disney animated film, the closure of an original Disney’s Hollywood Studios attraction, and the dedication of a new Walt Disney World transportation system.
Fun and Fancy Free Released (1947)
On this day in 1947, Fun and Fancy Free was released.
Disney’s 12th feature film, Fun and Fancy Free was made up of two different animated segments, Bongo (about a circus bear cub who runs away) and Mickey and the Beanstalk.
Three EPCOT Center Attractions Open (1982)
On this day in 1982, Kitchen Kabaret, the Universe of Energy, and Symbiosis all opened as part of EPCOT Center’s previews.
The three attractions were ready just days ahead of the park’s October 1st Grand Opening.
Listen to the Land Closes (1993)
On this day in 1993, Listen to the Land closed at EPCOT Center.
Listen to the Land would eventually reopen as Living with the Land in December 1993.
Pocahontas and Her Forest Friends Closes (2008)
On this day in 2008, Pocahontas and Her Forest Friends closed at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
The live Pocahontas show had been running in the park since it opened in 1998.
Pleasure Island Nightclubs Close (2008)
Also on this day in 2008, all six of the remaining nightclubs at Pleasure Island closed.
Mannequins Dance Palace, the Adventurers Club, 8TRAX, BET Soundstage, Motion, and the Comedy Warehouse all closed in preparation for Downtown Disney’s overhaul.
Studio Backlot Tour Closes (2014)
On this day in 2014, the Studio Backlot Tour closed at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The combination walking and tram tour had been a staple of the park since it opened on May 1, 1989.
Disney Skyliner Dedicated (2019)
On this day in 2019, the Disney Skyliner was dedicated.
Walt Disney World’s newest transportation system takes guests high in the sky with stops at Epcot, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Riveria Resort, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the Art of Animation Resort, and Pop Century.
