Welcome back to our continuing journey through The Walt Disney Company’s past. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- September 26.
September 25th featured the end of an original EPCOT Center sponsor, the cancelation of a Disney animated film, and the premiere of a popular Disney Channel show. So, let’s get started!
The Ocean Hop Premieres (1927)
On this day in 1927, the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit cartoon The Ocean Hop premiered.
Monkey Melodies Released (1930)
On this day in 1930, the Silly Symphony Monkey Melodies was released.
In the cartoon, Moneys and apes swing through the jungle to the hit song”Abba Dabba Dabba” and other standards.
Three Blind Mousekeeters Released (1936)
On this day in 1936, the Silly Symphony cartoon Three Blind Mouskeetrs was released.
The short was a combination of the nursery rhyme Three Blind Mice and the 1944 Dimas novel The Three Musketeers.
Almost Angels Released (1962)
On this day in 1962, the Disney film Almost Angels was released.
The film tells the story of a group of boys in the Vienna Boys’ Choir.
Walt Disney Premieres on CBS
On this day in 1981, the Walt Disney series premiered on CBS.
The first episode of the series aired part of The Love Bug.
Frontierland Shooting Gallery Changes Its Name (1984)
On this day in 1984, the Frontierland Shooting Gallery changed its name in Magic Kingdom.
The interactive attraction was renamed the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade.
Kraft Ends EPCOT Center Sponsorship (1993)
On this day in 1993, Kraft ended its sponsorship of The Land Pavilion.
The following day Nestle assumed sponsorship of the pavilion.
Disney Cancels Plans to Release Wild Life (2000)
On this day in 2000, Disney canceled plans to release Wild Life.
The animated feature film was described as a “retro 1960s New York” version of My Fair Lady.
The Suite Life on Deck Premieres (2008)
On this day in 2008, The Suite Life on Deck premiered on the Disney Channel.
The series was a spin-off of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.
Disney’s Grand Floridian Society Announces Final Performance
On this day in 2020, Disney’s Grand Floridian Society Orchestra announced that their final performance would take place on October 3.
After playing at the Grand Floridian for 32 years, Disney rebranded the group as the Disney Society Orchestra and moved them to the Theater of the Stars at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
