September 24th was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured the end of a popular Disney show, the introduction of a new character, and the premiere of a new Epcot parade. So, let’s get started!
Hawaiian Holiday Released (1937)
On this day in 1937, the Mickey Mouse cartoon Hawaiian Holiday was released.
In the short Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, and Donald enjoy a beach day.
Zorro Ends (1959)
On this day in 1959, the last episode of Zorro aired on ABC.
Despite good ratings, the show ended due to a financial dispute between Disney and ABC.
Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color Debuts in Color (1961)
On this day in 1961, Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color debuted in color on NBC.
The episode was hosted by Walt and introduced Ludwig Von Drake to audiances.
Construction Begins on the Carousel of Progress (1973)
On this day in 1973, construction began on the Carousel of Progress building in the Magic Kingdom.
The attraction would be shipped from Disneyland and relocated to Walt Disney World.
Lotus Blossom Cafe Opens (1985)
On this day in 1985, the Lotus Blossom Cafe opened in EPCOT’s China pavilion.
Boy Meets World Premieres (1993)
On this day in 1993, Boy Meets World premiered on ABC.
The show follows the everyday life of Cory Matthews, played by Ben Savage, who lives in suburban Philadelphia.
The Jersey Debuted (1999)
On this day in 1999, The Jersey debuted on the Disney Channel.
The show was based on the Monday Night Football Club books by Gordon Korman.
Tapestry of Dreams Premiered (2001)
On this day in 2001, Tapestry of Dreams premiered at Epcot.
The new parade was a slightly shorter version of the Tapestry of Nations Parade from the MIllennium celebration.
Mysteries, Myths, and Legends Tour Debuts (2004)
On this day in 2004, Disneyland debuted the Mysteries, Myths, and Legends Tour.
The interactive tour allowed guests to be part of a fictional storyline woven by the host.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Premieres (2013)
On this day in 2013, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premiered on ABC.
The series was a spin-off of The Avengers and focused on the peacekeeping and spy agency S.H.I.E.L.D.
