Donald Glover’s Lando Project Is Now Being Developed as a Movie
When Lucasfilm decided to dive into the backstory of Star Wars’ loveable rouge Han Solo for 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, expectations for the film were understandably high.
At the time Star Wars was in the midst of a revival following its purchase by Disney, and the first Star Wars anthology film was a rousing success.

Unfortunately, despite good reviews from critics, Solo bombed at the box office. While fans were less than thrilled to see a Han Solo adventure that didn’t feature Harrison Ford, Donald Glover’s turn as the iconic Lando Calrissian was met with widespread praise.
A Lando Project Has Been In the Works
In the aftermath of the Solo box office disaster, Disney decided to move away from the anthology films, even going so far as to cancel a planned Obi-Wan Kenobi film (the project would eventually see the light of day as a Disney+ series).

Despite the monumental shift in strategy that Solo’s box office failure necessitated Disney and Lucasfilm continued to move forward with a planned Lando spin-off.
Initially, the project was set to be a Disney+ series written by Haunted Mansion director Justin Simien, with Glover reprising his role as a young Lando Calrissian.

After years of development, last July it was announced that Simien had left the project and Glover and his brother Stephen were now writing the project.
Lando Is Now Being Developed as a Movie
In a recent interview on the Pablo Torre Find Out podcast, however, Stephen Glover revealed the project is actually for a movie, not a Disney+ series.
“It’s not even a show…the idea right now is to do a movie. Right now, because of the strike, it’s kind of like telephone all of the information,” Glover said.

Following the interview, Lucasfilm confirmed the news.
Glover Is Excited To Return
A Lando-centric project has now been in development for four years, with no release date in sight. Despite the long delay, earlier this year, Glover reiterated that he would love to play Lando again.

“I would love to play Lando again. It’s a fun time, being him. It just has to be the right way to do it. Time is precious. The past couple of years, this pandemic shit, it really had people experience time… People realize their time is valuable. You only get so much. I’m not interested in doing anything that’s going to be a waste of my time or just a paycheck. I’d much rather spend time with people that I enjoy. It just has to be the right thing, and I think it could be. Lando is definitely somebody I like to hang out with.”
