Welcome back to our magical journey through The Walt Disney Company’s past. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- September 7.
September 7th was a major day in Disney history, with the opening of a World Showcase pavilion, the debut of the terror that flaps in the night, and the closure of an EPCOT pavilion. So, let’s get started!
El Terrible Toreador Released (1929)
On this day in 1929, El Terrible Toreador was released.
In Disney’s second Silly Symphony cartoon, a barmaid, a Mexican officer, and a toreador form a love triangle.
No Sail Released (1945)
On this day in 1945, the Disney cartoon No Sail was released.
In the cartoon Goofy and Donald go sailing in a coin-operated rented boat, but have to deal with sharks.
Morocco Opens (1984)
On this day in 1984, the Morocco pavilion opened in World Showcase.
The first pavilion to be added to EPCOT since the park opened in 1982, the pavilion re-creates the architecture and atmosphere of Casablanca, Fez, and Marrakech.
Ron Miller Resigns as Disney’s CEO
Also on this day in 1984, Ron Miller resigned as Dinsey’s CEO.
He would eventually be replaced by Michael Eisner.
Darkwing Duck Debtus (1991)
On this day in 1991, Darkwing Duck debuted as part of the hour-long special “The Darkwind Duck Premiere and Back to School With the Mickey Mouse Club”.
The show centered on the caped crusader Darkwing Duck and his sidekick Launchpad McQuack who fight crime in St. Canard.
Disneyland’s Circle-Vision Theater Closes (1997)
On this day in 1997, Disneyland’s Circle-Vision theater closed.
The theater was incorporated into the Rocket Rods preshow.
Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride Closes (1998)
On this day in 1998, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride closed at Walt Disney World.
Despite fan outcry, the opening day dark ride attraction was closed to make room for The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.
Hercules Victory Parade Ends (1998)
Also on this day in 1998, the Hercules Victory Parade ended at Disneyland.
The temporary parade was created to celebrate the release of Disney’s Hercules.
The Little Match Girl Released (2005)
On this day in 2005, the Disney animated short The Little Match Girl was released.
The cartoon was based on an original story of the same name by Hans Christian Anderson.
Kim Possible Ends (2007)
On this day in 2007, the Kim Possible finale “Graduation” aired.
The animated series tells the story of a high school teenager who fights crime in her spare time. The show had originally debuted in 2002.
Golden Dreams Closes (2008)
On this day in 2008, Golden Dreams closed at Disney California Adventure.
An opening day attraction, Golden Dreams starred Whoopi Goldberg as Califia, the Queen of California.
Bountiful Valley Farm Closes (2010)
On this day in 2010, the Bountiful Valley Farm area closed at Disney California Adventure.
The area was closed to make way for the Cars Land.
Pickle and Peanut Debuts (2015)
On this day in 2015, Pickle and Peanut debuted on Disney XD.
The series tells the story of two friends Pickle and Peanut. The series ran for two seasons.
Innoventions East Closes (2019)
Finally, on this day in 2019, Innoventions East closed at EPCOT.
Open since 1994, the pavilion housed numerous interactive exhibits including The Sum of All Thrills and Colortopia.
