March 26th featured a milestone for a classic Disney song, the beginning of a new celebration, and the debut of a nostalgic streaming series. So, let’s get started!
The Ballad of Davy Crockett Hits #1 (1955)
On this day in 1955, The Ballad of Davy Crockett reached #1 on the Billboard pop charts.
Written by George Bruns & Tom Blackburn, the song was an important part of Disney’s Davy Crockett phenomenon.
Ride A Wild Pony Released (1976)
On this day in 1976, Ride a Wild Pony was released.
Based on the novel “A Sporting Proposition”, the film told the story of a poor farm boy and a rich girl who battle for ownership of a horse they love.
Food Rocks Opens (1994)
On this day in 1994, Food Rock! opened in Epcot.
The Audio-Animatornic musical revue replaced Kitchen Kabaret in The Land pavilion.
Doug’s 1st Movie Released
On this day in 1999, Doug’s 1st Movie was officially released.
The film was based on the animated series Doug, which originally aired on Nickelodeon, but eventually moved to Disney.
Wonders of China Closes (2003)
On this day in 2003, Wonders of China closed in Epcot.
The film would be updated and eventually reopen as Reflections of China.
Waking Sleeping Beauty Premiers (2010)
On this 2010, Waking Sleeping Beauty premiered in theaters.
Directed by Don Hahn, the film chronicled the Walt Disney Studios from 1984 until 1994.
Disneyland Paris’ 25 Anniversary Begins (2017)
On this day in 2017, Disneyland Paris’ 25th anniversary kicked off.
As part of the festivities, Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain opened, as did Star Wars: The Adventure Continues.
At night, a brand new spectacular titled Disney Illuminations also debuted at the park.
The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers Premiers (2021)
Finally, on this day in 2021, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers premiered on Disney+.
The new series was based on the Mighty Ducks franchise from the early 1990s, and featured Emilio Estevez reprising his role as Gordon Bombay. 4
