The Roger E. Broggie Train is Back at Magic Kingdom After Long Refurbishment
Our MickeyBlogger Melissa has been spending the day at Magic Kingdom and captured the return of a beloved attraction. Throughout most of the day, the Walt Disney World Railroad at Magic Kingdom was closed to visitors. We wondered why the attraction wasn’t in operation but we think we found our answer as we were leaving the park. Check out these images of the Roger E. Broggie, one of the four locomotives used in the Walt Disney World Railroad attraction. What is so exciting about this is that this locomotive has been away for repair since Mid-2019.
The Roger E. Broggie was making its way up the tracks to Magic Kingdom and we managed to capture these images of the locomotive with its vivid yellow carriages.
For those unfamiliar, this Walt Disney World Railroad train takes its name from Roger E. Broggie, the vice president in charge of finding the actual steam trains that would be used in the Walt Disney World Railroad. He had previously worked on the Disneyland Railroad at Disneyland Resort and was tasked with finding existing locomotives that could be purchased by Disney for the Magic Kingdom attraction.
The Roger E. Broggie is known for its five yellow passenger cars and was originally built in May of 1925. It began transporting guests at Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971.
This particular train was originally expected to be named the Roy O. Disney. However, Walt’s brother did not want his name attached to the train as it was too similar to the No. 1. which was named after Walt. With this in mind, the name was changed to honor Broggie who sourced the trains that are still in service today.
If you’re visiting Disney World in the weeks or months ahead, don’t miss a chance to climb aboard and experience a bit of Disney history now that the Roger E. Broggie train is back!
