Could a Baz Luhrmann Live-Action Tangled Be in the Works?
As Disney fans will know, the company has been reviving many of its beloved animated films by turning them into large-scale live-action productions. Over the past few years, we’ve seen live-action versions of The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and Alladin just to name a few. The Disney live-action juggernaut shows no signs of slowing and according to reports, Disney may be setting its sights on a Baz Luhrmann collaboration for a live-action version of Tangled.

Baz Luhrmann is the force behind beloved films including Moulin Rouge, Romeo & Juliet, The Great Gatsby, and most recently Elvis. Luhrmann is known for his highly stylized, colorful, and vivid productions with musical playing a key role in the storytelling. With that in mind, it sounds like a good match, however, at the moment it is just a rumor! According to a recent piece in SFFGazette.com the partnership was first brought to light by industry insider Daniel Richtman.

Richtman took this one step further saying that Florence Pugh (Black Widow, Oppenheimer) is being eyed to play Rapunzel. According to the SFFGazette Zachery Levi, who voiced the role of Flynn Rider in the original film, even expressed an interest in being a part of said revival.
It should be noted that no official word from Disney or Luhrmann has been given regarding the project nor whether the esteemed director is interested in being involved with the project. This is a story that we’ll be following closely and we promise to keep you posted.
For those unfamiliar, Tangled was Disney’s 2010 musical retelling of Rapunzel. the fairy tale of a princess locked away in a tower with long flowing locks. In addition to Levi, the original animated film featured Mandy Moore as Rapunzel and Donna Murphy as Mother Gothel.
