August 25th was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured the opening of a Disney-affiliated hotel, the debut of a Disney MGM-Studios attraction, and the loss of a Disney Leged. So, let’s get started!
The Disneyland Hotel Celebrates Its Grand Opening (1956)
On this day in 1956, The Disneyland Hotel celebrates its “official” grand opening.
On hand for the festivities were Art Linkletter, William Bendix, Alan Ladd, and Anaheim Mayor Charles Pearson.
The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular is Dedicated (1989)
On this day in 1989, The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular was dedicated at the Disney-MGM Studios.
The 30-minute stunt show recreates some of the most thrilling moments from the Indiana Jones films.
Carl Barks Passes Away (2000)
On this day in 2000, Disney Legend Carl Barks passed away at the age of 99.
Barks wrote and drew hundreds of Disney’s Donald Duck comics over his three decades of work at the company.
Invincible Released (2006)
On this day in 2006, Invincible was released.
The film told the story of real-life football hero Vince Papale.
The Cheetah Girls 2 Airs (2006)
Also on this day in 2006, The Cheetah Girls 2 aired.
The second film in the franchise saw the Cheetah Girls traveling to Spain.
Brandy & Mr. Whisker’s Ends (2006)
Also on this day in 2006, Brandy & Mr. Whisker’s series finale aired.
The animated series tells the story of an unlikely friendship between a short-tempered dog and an oblivious rabbit.
Disney Legend Armand Bigle Passes Away (2007)
On this day in 2007, Disney Legend Armand Bigle passed away at the age of 89.
Biggle was often referred to as Disney’s “Godfather of Europe” and was tapped in 1949 by Roy O. Disney to serve as Disney’s premiere European sales representative.
Wishes: A Magical Gathering of Disney Dreams Ends (2007)
Finally, also on this day in 2007, Wishes: A Magical Gathering of Diseny Dreams ended at Disneyland Paris.
The fireworks show had been running since 2005.
