Mark Hamill on Star Wars: “What an extraordinary journey it’s been….”
Sometimes art collides with art in a meaningful way.
And that’s how I feel about Mark Hamill’s latest missive over on Twitter.
In the open letter, Hamill — essentially the world’s Jedi master — wrote:
A few thoughts as one era ends and another begins…#StarWars pic.twitter.com/ZucNHEPtaS

Interesting timing for Hamill, who is super savvy when it comes to the feelings of Star Wars fans.
When I first read the above, I felt like it had come from Force ghost Mark Hamill — like Luke in Episode 9 — able to look out over the galaxy and calmly evaluate what’s going on.
- Maybe this was Hamill finally “moving on” from his HUGE part in the Star Wars story.
- Perhaps he was simply making a sage observation from the cat bird seat.
- I like to think Mr. Hamill looked out over fandom, saw how silly so many of us have been (are being), and said to himself I need to remind them that Star Wars is for everyone and is bigger than one character or story.
In the end, Mark was probably just saying, “Thank you….” to the folks and franchise that put him on an “extraordinary journey.”
But, any way the saber slices, all of us should be saying “Thank you!” to Mark Hamill.
