The Wait Is Finally Over! ‘Ahsoka’ Premieres Tonight On Disney+
Disney’s newest Star Wars streaming series Ahsoka will finally premiere tonight, and I could not be more excited!
The show will see Rosario Dawson reprise her role as Anakin Skywalker’s former Padawan after previously appearing in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett.
In the new series, the former Jedi-turned-Rebel leader will face a new challenge, as Grand Admiral Thrawn returns to claim his title as Heir to the Empire.
Continuing The Story of ‘Rebels’
While Ahsoka has previously appeared in Mandalorian-related content, the new series will actually serve as a sequel to Star Wars Rebels (itself a sequel to Star Wars: The Clone Wars).
The animated series which ran from 2017 until 2020, told the story of the Ghost Crew, a rag-tag team of rebels who helped to bring down the Empire.
Rebels not only introduced new characters to the Star Wars universe such as Ezra Bridger, Kanan Jarrus, Hella Syndulya, and Sabine Wren, but it also continued to tell the stories of previously established Star Wars players such as Darth Maul, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and yes, Ahsoka Tano.
Who Is Ahsoka Tano
Throughout the last 15 years, there has been no character more central to the Star Wars franchise than Ahsoka. The young warrior debuted in Star Wars: The Clone Wars as Anakin Skywalker’s apprentice before eventually leaving the Jedi Order prior to the execution of Order 66. During the series, Ahsoka transformed from a brash, inexperienced youth to a wise and mighty hero.
While technically no longer a Jedi, Ahsoka has proven to be a master of the Force, going head to head with the likes of the Inquisitors, Maul, Darth Vader, and even Emperor Palpatine.
Ahsoka is set to continue the storyline of Rebels, which ended with Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn being whisked away via Purrgil to parts unknown. The series’ epilogue revealed that Ezra (and presumably Thawn) were still alive. Ahsoka and Sabine Wren then set out to find the young Jedi.
The last time we saw Ahsoka, she was teaming up with Din Djarin to capture an Imperial warlord named Moragan Elsbeth. The former Jedi’s real goal, however, was to gain knowledge of the whereabouts of Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Set concurrent to the events of The Mandalorian Season 3, Ahsoka will hopefully answer lingering questions for Rebels fans, while continuing to develop one of Star Wars’ greatest heroes.
‘Ahsoka’ Premieres Tonight!
Ahsoka will make Disney+ history when it debuts tonight, as it will be the first series to release new episodes during prime time.
So, grab some popcorn and get ready. The wait is finally over and Ahsoka is almost here. The show will debut at 9 P.M. ET tonight, August 22!
