This Day in Disney History- August 18
Welcome back to our continuing journey through the history of the Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- August 18.
August 18th was a slower day in DIsney but it still featured the debut of a new area in Disneyland, the opening of a new tavern in Walt Disney World, and the launch of a new Disney game. So, let’s get going!
Blue Rhythm Released (1931)
On this day in 1931, the Mickey Mouse cartoon Blue Rhythm was released.
In the short, Mickey leads an orchestra in a spoof of Ted Lewis.
Walt Disney Festival of Hits Begins (1940)
On this day in 1940, the Great Walt Disney Festival of Hits began running at Warner’s Playhouse in Dover, New Jersey.
The event featured screenings of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Ferdinand the Bull, The Three Little Pigs, The Ugly Duckling and Donald’s Lucky Day.
The Carnation Plaza Gardens Open (1956)
On this day in 1956, the Carnation Plaza Gardens opened in Disneyland.
Located in the Plaza Hub next to Sleeping Beauty Castle, the new area would become a popular site for “Date Nite at Disneyland”.
Crockett’s Tavern Opens (1986)
On this day in 1986, Crockett’s Tavern opened in Walt Disney World’s Fort Wilderness.
The new bar was located inside Fort Wilderness’ Pioneer Hall.
Cheetah Released (1989)
On this day in 1989, Cheetah was released.
The film told the story of two teenagers help raise a cheetah and protect it from poachers.
The True Legends of the Golden Horseshoe Takes Place (2011)
On this day in 2011, Disneyland held a special event to “The True Legends of the Golden Horseshoe”.
The event was a celebration of Wally Boag and Betty Taylor who both based away in June 2010.
Disney Infinity Launches
Finally, on this day in 2013, the official Disney Infinity launch event was held.
The new Disney game would launch on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, Wii, and Nintendo 3DS.
