Secrets and Trivia About the Magic Carpets of Aladdin
If you have ever taken a stroll through Adventureland in the Magic Kingdom, you have undoubtable seen the Magic Carpets of Aladdin.
While on the surface the Magic Carpets is a simple hub and spoke ride, there is actually a lot of history and trivia surrounding attraction.
The Backstory
Did you know that the Magic Carpets of Aladdin has its own backstory? While most Disney fans have no idea of lore surrounding the attraction, it actually ties into Adventureland as a whole.
According to the story, the Genie bottle that serves as the centerpiece of the attraction was discovered when a well that had previously been located in the center of Adventureland was dug up at the turn of 21st Century.
Following the discovery, the new attraction was created around the lamp, and the Magic Carpets of Aladdin was born!
Familiar Camels
When riding the Magic Carpets of Aladdin, or just traveling through Adventureland, guests can see two giant spitting camels. One camel sprays water onto guests as they ride the Carpets, while the other shoots nearby pedestrians.
If you feel like you have seen the camels somewhere else in Walt Disney World, your probably right!
The two twin camels were originally featured in the Aladdin’s Royal Caravan parade that ran at the Disney-MGM Studios from December 21, 1992 until August 27, 1995.
Following the end of the parade’s run, the camels were relocated to the park’s Soundstage Restaurant.
While the Soundstage Restaurant eventually closed on November 14, 1998, the camels were preserved and eventually moved to their current location in Adventureland when the Magic Carpets of Aladdin opened in 2001!
Fun Facts and Trivia
In addition to the attraction’s historic camels, there are some other notable facts about the Magic Carpets of Aladdin.
For starters, the attraction was the first permanent Aladdin themed attraction in Walt Disney World!
The addition of the Magic Carpets also led to the creation of Ahgrabah Bazaar in Adventureland.
More impressively, the Magic Carpets was the first new attraction added to Adventureland since Pirates of the Caribbean opened in 1973, and it remains that last new attraction added to the land!
