The Top 10 Coasters at Disneyland and Disney World
National Roller Coaster Day is right around the corner (August 16th!) As we gear up to celebrate the thrills you get from riding a coaster, we thought it’d be the perfect time 10 roller coaster thrill rides at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort sure to get your adrenaline pumping.
1. Space Mountain
Location: Disneyland Park and Magic Kingdom
You’ll find this beloved mountain at Tomorrowland in both Magic Kingdom and Disneyland Park. Each park offers a unique Space Mountain experience. At Walt Disney World you’ll get two nearly-identical tracks and single-file train vehicles. Over at Space Mountain in Disneyland, there’s one track and train car with two riders and built-in speakers that play the original sci-fi-inspired song from the attraction.
Though the attractions may differ, one thing is the same between both rides, this indoor, dark thrilling roller-coaster ride will take you on an intergalactic adventure that you won’t soon forget. Parents with small kids should note that this coaster has a height restriction of 44 inches to ride at Disney World and 40 inches to ride at Disneyland.
Get ready for some amazing drops, unexpected turns, immersive lights, sound effects, and g-force!
2. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Location: Disneyland Park and Magic Kingdom
Here’s another beloved “mountain” coaster that you’ll find at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Both take you inside the Big Thunder Mining Company’s haunted gold mine aboard a high-speed train. You’ll find this wild western adventure in Frontierland at both parks!

There is a height restriction of 40 inches on this ride and guests of all ages will delight in racing through the tunnels of this roller coaster while dodging exploding dynamite, falling boulders, and a shakey track.
3. TRON Lightcycle / Run presented by Enterprise
Location: Magic Kingdom
Get ready for one of Magic Kingdom’s newest and fastest coasters. TRON Lightcycle/Run coaster in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom takes guests on a futuristic race across the Grid aboard your very own Lightcycle. Guests must be 48 inches or taller to join the adventure. Admission is done through a Virtual Queue experience via the My Disney Experience App or through purchasing Individual Lightning Lane.

4. Incredicoaster
Location: Disney California Adventure Park
Fans of the Incredibles won’t want to miss a chance to ride the Incredicoaster at Disney’s California Adventure Park located in Pixar Pier. You’ll join the Parr family including Mr. and Mrs. Incredible, Violet, and Dash to catch Jack-Jack in a high-speed chase with lots of twists and turns!

The height restriction for this attraction is 48″ or taller. This attraction also has the distinction of being the fastest coaster at Disney California Adventure!
5. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
Location: Magic Kingdom
Heigh Ho, Heigh Ho, it’s to the mine train we go! Visitors to Magic Kingdom can step into one of Disney’s most-loved fairy tales as you speed through the Seven Dwarfs’ diamond mines in a minecart. Get ready for lots of drops, turns, gems, and an evil queen!
To embark on this family-friendly high-speed adventure you must be 38″ or taller.
Pro tip: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train has one of my favorite Disney World ride queues. Full of fun hands one activities there are fun details everywhere you look, including the ceiling!
6. Matterhorn Bobsleds
Location: Disneyland Park
It doesn’t get much more iconic than Matternhorn Bobleds. This classic attraction features two bobsled tracks. One is located in Tomorrowland and the other in Fantasyland. Matterhorn has the distinction of being the first coaster built in Disney and the first tubular steel coaster in the world.
This attraction draws its inspiration from the Swiss Alps and during your adventure you’ll even come face-to-face with the Abominable Snowman as you explore dark caves, icy precipices, and waterfalls. This ride has a minimum requirement of 42 inches.
7. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
Location: EPCOT
Get ready for some Marvel Madness on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. You’ll join Rocket, Groot, Gamora, Drax and Star-Lord on a mission that is out-of-this-world. Get ready for a high-speed chase while riding one of the largest fully enclosed coasters in the world!

Guests are required to be 42″ or taller to ride Cosmic Rewind and you must sign up for the virtual queue via the My Disney Experience app or purchase an individual Lightning Lane admission for the attraction.
8. Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain
Location: Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Get ready to conquer the legend! Board your high-speed train heading through the dark passages of Mount Everest in search of a mythical snow monster. Along the way, you’ll encounter big drops, high speeds, dark places, broken tracks and more!

You’ll find this attraction in the Asia section of Animal Kingdom and guests must be 44″ inches to ride!
9. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith
Location: Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Get ready to rock on this indoor coaster located off Sunset Boulevard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. You’ll team up with famous rock band Aerosmith on a high-octane limousine ride to get to your concert before it’s too late! This attraction has it all, exciting music, high speed, three amazing inversions and dazzling neon signs.
If you are 48″ or taller you can enjoy on of Disney World’s most thrilling rides while rocking out to Aerosmith songs including “Walk This Way,” “Dude (Looks Like a Lady),” “Sweet Emotion” and “Back in the Saddle”.
10. Goofy’s Sky School
Location: Disney California Adventure Park
Take to the skies with a bit of help from Goofy on the Goofy’s Sky School Coaster. You’ll hop on board your flight-training vehicle before taking off three stories into the air. The caster sends you zipping along 1,200 feet of track with lots of ups and downs and twists and turns!
Goofy’s Sky School is located in Paradise Gardens Park and you must be 42″ to ride!
Honorable Mention – Slinky Dog Dash
Location: Disney’s Hollywood Studios
We couldn’t possibly leave out this cutie. This exhilarating roller coaster brings Toy Story to life as you zigzag through Andy’s backyard. Slinky Dog Dash has lots of hills, curves, bends and more to keep you on the edge of your seat. You also get some pretty amazing views of the Pixar-themed land.
