This Day in Disney History- August 5
Welcome back to our continuing journey through The Walt Disney Company’s past. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- August 5.
August 5th was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured the opening of a Disneyland attraction, the beginning of an EPCOT Center pavilion, and the release of a popular Disney sequel. So, let’s get started!
Honey Harvester Released (1949)
On this day in 1949, the Donald Duck cartoon Honey Harvester was released.
In the cartoon, Donald comes into conflict with Spike the Bee.
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Exhibit Opens (1955)
On this day in 1955, The 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Exhibit opened in Disneyland’s Tomorrowland.
The walk-through exhibit featured props and set pieces from the 1954 Disney film 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
Adventure Thru Inner Space Opens (1967)
On this day in 1967, Adventure Thru Inner Space opened in Tomorrowland.
Disneyland’s first OmniMover attraction, Adventure Thru Inner Space shrunk guest down to the size of an atom and set them off into the microscopic universe.
Site Work Begins on Horizons (1981)
On this day in 1981, site work began on Horizons at EPCOT Center.
Construction itself would begin in January 1981, and the pavilion would eventually welcome guest on October 1, 1983.
Pooh’s Grand Adventure: The Search For Christopher Robin Released (1997)
On this day in 1997, Pooh’s Grand Adventure: The Search For Christopher Robin was released.
Although released direct-to-video, the film would be nominated for 5 Annie Awards.
Via Napoli Opens (2010)
On this day in 2010, Via Napoli opened in the Italy pavilion.
Operated by the Patina Restaurant Group, the restaurant’s menu was inspired by the pizzerias of Southern Italy.
Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension Airs (2011)
On this day in 2011, Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension aired.
Based on the popular animated series Phineas and Ferb, the film drew 7.6 million viewers.
Radio Disney Celebrates 15th Anniversary (2011)
Finally, also on this day in 2011, Radio Disney celebrated its 15th anniversary with the Radio Disney Birthday Jam.
Radio DIsney was originally launched on November 18. 1996.
