Welcome back to our continuing journey through the history of the Walt Disney Company. Today, we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- February 4.
February 4th was a massive day for the Walt Disney Company. They released their first feature length animated film, debuted Winnie the Pooh, and opened a new EPCOT Center exhibit.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Released (1938)
On this day in 1938, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was released in the theaters.
The first feature length animated film released in theaters, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs proved that there was an audience for full length films.
Adjusted for inflation, the film is still one of the top ten most profitable American films of all time. It would go on to revolutionize the Disney company and propel them to become the international entertainment icon they are today.
Rob Roy, Highland Rouge Released (1954)
On this day in 1954, Roby Roy, Highland Rouge was released.
The film starred Richard Todd as Robert Roy MacGregor, a clean leader in 18th Scotland attempting to lead a rebellion against King George I.
Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree Premieres (1966)
On this day in 1966, Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree premiered in theaters.
The short was Disney’s first animated cartoon featuring A.A. Milne’s famous characters. The short featured Sterling Holloway as Winnie the Pooh, and Sebastian Cabot as the narrator.
Backstage Magic Opens (1984)
On this day in 1984, Backstage Magic opened in CommuniCore West.
The interactive exhibit replaced the Astuter Computer Revue. Backstage Magic featured computer operator Julie an her sidekick I/O. The exhibit would run through 1993.
This is Love: A Royal Knight to Remember Takes Place at the Magic Kingdom (2004)
On this day in 2004, “This Is Love: A Royal Knight to Remember” took place at the Magic Kingdom.
The hard ticketed event allowed guest to dress up in regal garb and go on a “gallant quest”. The event also featured special character interactions, and a ball in front of Cinderella Castle featuring Disney princesses, in addition to food and drinks.
