Orlando International Airport Hits New Traffic Record in June
Orlando International Airport (MCO) continues to be one of the busiest airports in the country, and it isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. In fact, MCO hit a new record in June.
The airport’s passenger traffic reached 54.6 million for the rolling 12-moth cycle ending in June. The 12-month count is up 12.4% from 48.57 million for the same time period last year.
Meanwhile, travel for the calendar year was up to 28.96 million passengers. That number was up 17.83% from last year’s total of 24.57 million during the same time period.
Breaking down the numbers for the 12 month rolling period ending in June, domestic travel accounted for 48 million passengers. That was up 11% from 43.24 million the year prior.
International travel meanwhile represented 6.52 million travelers. That was a giant leap from 3.78 million last year, an increase of 72%.
New And Returning Flights
Contributing to the traffic growth were a slew of new and/or resuming flight services. According to MCO these are the flights that have returned to service or sprung anew.
New flights
The new flights from Orlando International Airport included:
- Avelo Airlines: To Greenville/Spartanburg, South Carolina
- Red Way Airlines (operated by Global Crossing): To Lincoln, Nebraska
Resuming flights
The returning flights from MCO included:
- Avianca S.A.: To Medellin, Colombia; and San Salvador, El Salvador
- Azul Airlines: To Recife, Brazil
- Bahamasair: To Freeport, Bahamas
- Frontier Airlines: To St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles
- Southwest Airlines: To Cincinnati, Ohio; and Jackson, Mississippi
- Virgin Atlantic: To Edinburgh, Scotland
An increase in air travel to MCO is good news for Central Orlando which should see additional business.
