WTAE reports that for four years, United High School music students have been raising money for a trip to Disney World. They worked hard holding fundraisers and events to contribute to the exciting outing.
Over 100 students would be going on the trip. Unfortunately, it was suddenly and unexpectedly canceled.
Canceled Disney World Trip
Parent Erynn Mack shares, “All we were told is that the money is gone and the trip is canceled. These poor kids saved for four years to go to Disney and it was robbed from them.”
Pennsylvania State Police got involved and began investigating. Money for the trip was collected through the United Music Boosters, a group operating outside the school district.
After thousands of dollars went missing, the district was forced to cancel the trip. Parents suspected this wasn’t an accident.
Parent Christy Normand shared, “There should be two or three people that are signing off on an account that size and there should be safeguards in place.”
Erynn Mack adds, “They weren’t looking at the books. They weren’t checking the bank statements because if they were all that money would not be gone. That much money does not disappear overnight.”
Good News
Originally, it was unlikely that the trip would be saved. But, today, news broke that the group will be able to go to Disney World after all, thanks to the generosity of Penns Manor High School!
The school invited the students to march alongside them during their upcoming Disney parade! We’re glad this story has a happy ending and that Indiana County High School students will get to go to Disney World after all!
