Typhoon Lagoon is Big on Details! Let’s Celebrate Them for National Water Parks Day
This Friday is National Water Parks Day and we’ve got the perfect way to celebrate! How about a visit to Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon!? This water park is brimming with Disney magic and features favorites including a lazy river, the largest wave pool in North America, thrilling water coasters and so much more! It also wouldn’t be Disney without immersive storytelling and a pinch of pixie dust.
We hope you’ll be heading to Typhoon Lagoon on Friday. If so, here are some awesome details to be on the lookout for! Happy Splashing!
A Stormy Beginning
I
Next time you arrive at Typhoon Lagoon, take notice of some of the signs that welcome you to the park. From the moment you walk up to the park, you’ll get some fun insights into the backstory of Typhoon Lagoon. According to Typhoon Lagoon lore, a furious storm roared across the sea, catching ships in its path, helpless to flee. Instead of certain watery doom, the ships were swept to Typhoon Lagoon.
Throughout the water park, you’ll see bits of pieces of treasure and debris. For instance, at the front entrance, you’ll notice a marquee made from a ship’s mast and sail. There’s also the main landmark, Miss Tilly features hidden details that enhance this backstory.
Mount Mayday & Miss Tilly
While we’re on the subject of Miss Tilly, as the backstory goes, this iconic water park ship was actually a shrimping vessel that was swept high atop the volcanic Mount Mayday and looms high over the transformed lagoon. Mount Mayday also erupts every half hour creating large waves into the surf pull. Miss Tilly will whistle a warning to let you know that it’s coming.
Captain Mary Oceaneer & Miss Adventure Falls
My favorite Typhoon Lagoon attraction is definitely Miss Adventure Falls! This family raft ride takes you on a high-speed treasure hunt filled with the fabulous attention to detail that Disney is known for. One of the park’s most famous residents is Captain Mary Oceaneer. According to lore, Captain Mary is a world-famous treasure hunter and made it her goal to collect treasures from around the world. One day, as Mary was diving for treasure, a storm struck and carried the ship’s artifacts to Typhoon Lagoon. Today many of these treasures can be found at Miss Adventure Falls!
Tropical Amity Fruit Exporters & Crush ‘n’ Gusher
The theming at Typhoon Lagoon isn’t all about shipwrecks! Over at Tropical Amity Fruit Exporters which was once home to juices crushed with flavor and gushing with taste, you’ll find the aptly named Crush ‘n’ Gusher water slide. Guests of the attraction can now choose between three “fruit chutes” and slide down in your inflatable fruit bins!
These are just a few of the fun storytelling details you’ll find at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon. Be on the lookout for others during your next visit to the water park! National Water Parks Day is a perfect time to visit. Or, for those visiting later in the year, consider getting a special ticket for Disney H2O Glow After Hours. These special ticketed event takes place on select evenings after the water park closes for the day and features exclusive eats and treats, DJ dance parties, and little to no lines for your favorite coasters!
