‘The Acolyte’ Will Be A Star Wars Show With No War
The upcoming Disney+ Star Wars series The Acolyte is set to take the franchise where it hasn’t gone before in live-action — the era of the High Republic.
Set roughly 100 years before The Phantom Menace, the show will take place during a time when the Jedi are at the height of their power, and the galaxy is at peace.

For showrunner Leslye Headland, the setting raised an interesting question — how do you tell a Star Wars story without any war.
“We’re looking at a time period where there is peace throughout the galaxy. It was very challenging and interesting to make a Star Wars with no war in it. So the question became, Well, what should the show be about if it’s not going to be about galactic conflict?”

Turning The Star Wars Format Upside Down
The answer was to turn the Star Wars formula on its head. The Acolyte will focus on the villains of the Star Wars universe — the Sith.

“These are people who are using the Force in their own way, dipping into the darker sides of the Force and are doing it without being sanctioned by the larger institution, which, in this case, is the Jedi.”
There Will Be Battles
While there may be no war in The Acolyte, that doesn’t mean that there will not be battles. Instead, Headland and her team have made the conflicts more intimate.

“I can say this pretty confidently,” declares Headland. “I don’t think you’re going to see action in other shows the way that you see it utilized in our show.”
Fans will get a chance to see Headland’s take on Star Wars when The Acolyte hits Disney+ in 2024.
