East Coast Storms Delay Travel In and Out of Orlando Airport
If you are flying into or out of Orlando today, be prepared for a long day at the airport.
The FAA just announced that there is a ground stop for flights heading to Orlando due to storms.
More Delays Are Expected
Although Central Florida remains largely dry at the moment, the storms are interfering with flights arriving and departing from the airport.
Severe weather has been reported in the Florida panhandle and with storms getting stronger and stronger, more flights have been delayed.
As of 11:30 am ET, 54 of Orlando International Airport’s 200 flights have been delayed while 7 have been canceled. Those numbers are expected to increase as we move later into the afternoon.
Yesterday, the FAA warned travelers that the storm cells hitting the East Coast could delay flights throughout the country. While airports attempted to re-reroute air traffic around the storms, in some cases that is no longer possible.
MCO Responds
MCO, always one to have a tweet for any situation, seems to be taking the current delays in stride.
Weather: Storming. Torrential rain. Winds straight out of the Wizard of Oz. Thunder that has literally been sent by Thor himself.
Airline: "Your flight is delayed because of weather."
