U.S. Air Force Brings Awe-Inspiring 4th of July Flyover To Magic Kingdom
One of the highlights of a July 4, 2023 visit was definitely the U.S. Air Force Flyover that took place at 10:30 am this morning! Crowds lined up at the HUB in the Magic Kingdom and down Main Street USA to see the planes fly in formation over Cinderella Castle. It was the perfect way to celebrate both America’s birthday and the military service members that work so hard to protect our nation.
The flyovers took place today as part of the Air Force’s national outreach program. Included in this morning’s program were a squadron of elite F-35 stealth fighter jets. They were accompanied by patriotic music on the ground at the Magic Kingdom.
This flyover comes as the Walt Disney Company celebrates its 100th Anniversary. The U.S. Air Force also has a centennial celebration of its own. This year marks 100 years of aerial refueling capabilities. To celebrate the Air Force KC-135 Stratotanker was included in this year’s July 4th flyover. For those unfamiliar the Air Force KC-135 is a large tanker aircraft that can carry up to seven tons of fuel. It acts as an aerial gas station for the Air Force enhancing the military’s capability and global reach.
“Flyovers are such a spectacular show of air power and freedom,” said Katie Spencer, aerial events for U.S. Air Force Public Affairs in the Pentagon. “You feel the jet noise in your soul, and it inspires the next generation of patriotism. A touch of magic for the most magical place.”
If you were following along with us here at MickeyBlog, you may have seen our photos of Minnie Mouse and Goofy dressed up in their aviator gear to celebrate. They were joined by Air Force veteran, George Denby, general manager of the Orlando Fisher House (one of 95+ comfort homes across the United States built by the Fisher House Foundation.) There is an Orlando Fisher House where military and veteran’s families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment at Orlando VA Medical Center in Lake Nona. Over the years, Disney has even taken part in VoluntEARs activities to support Fisher House.
“There is no greater way to celebrate America’s birthday and those who protect it, than this flyover over Magic Kingdom,” said George. “Thanks to Disney for hosting this salute to those who do so much to protect our country on this special day.”
Cast member Max Tubbs spoke about the importance of today’s 4th of July flyover saying, “As an Air Force veteran watching this flyover here at Magic Kingdom is amazing.” Max continued, “I am so happy to be part of a company that is continuously honoring those who are part of the military, especially during my favorite holiday which is Independence Day.”
Tubbs is a senior recruiter for Disney Internships and a retired U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant. He came aboard as a Disney Cast Member as part of the company’s Heroes Work Here Program. Today, Max helps college applicants find their perfect Disney internship.
But the fun wasn’t limited to Walt Disney World. Over at Disneyland Resort, military service members are hosting several military bands playing patriotic music across the resort throughout the holiday. Among them were members of the 1st Marine Division Board from Camp Pendleton. They gave a performance at the bandstand at Paradise Gardens at Disney California Adventure Park.
