The Best Part of Tom Sawyer Island is GONE in Disney World
Change happens at Disney World all of the time. There are big things like complete ride makeovers as well as small things like signs being redone.
Today, we noticed a change that might make a certain group of Disney fans a little bit sad! Tom Sawyer Island fans, buckle up.
Tom Sawyer Island Barrel Bridge
Tom Sawyer Island is located in Magic Kingdom in Frontierland. It is a literal island, so you have to take a small raft in order to get there!
On the island, there are many different places you can explore, like the caves and the old fort. There are also some places to kick back and relax in some rocking chairs.
One of the fun spots on the island is the barrel bridge, which is exactly what it sounds like — a bridge made of barrels! You walk on top of the barrels to get across the water.
But, when we went over to the island today, the bridge was completely GONE!
We noticed the closed sign first. Then, when we went to look at the bridge we saw that all of the barrels have been removed.
All that’s left of the bridge is the small landing that was in the middle and helped support the barrels.
This is a big bummer! The barrel bridge was very fun to frolic over.
Hopefully this is just temporary and Disney is just doing some maintenance. We’ll be on the lookout to see if and when the barrels return!
But, there’s also the possibility that this could be a permanent change. The bridge is not necessary to get around on the island, it’s more off to the side, so it could remain closed.
The other option is that Disney could replace the barrels with a normal bridge. I really hope this isn’t the case, because the barrels are a lot more fun to go across!
We guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
