Disney’s “American Born Chinese” To Air On Multiple Platforms
As Disney continues to adjust it streaming strategy, the company is trying something different with the Disney+ series “American Born Chinese”.
The show originally premiered on Disney’s flagship streaming platform on May 24 and told the story of a regular American teenager whose life is changed when he befriends the son of a mythological god.

In a first for a Disney+ series, Disney has decided to air “American Born Chinese” on a multitude of platforms including, ABC, Hulu, Roku, and YouTube.
What Platforms Will Have “American Born Chinese”

Following the show’s debut on ABC and YouTube, episodes one, two, and three of “American Born Chinese” will be available on Hulu from June 26 through July 9. Finally, the first three episodes will hit Roku on June 26 through July 10.
A Sign Of Things To Come?
While the decision to show “American Born Chinese” may be a one-off experiment, the move could also point to a larger Disney strategy.
In recent months, Disney has removed dozens of shows, mostly original series and specials, from Disney+.

While Disney will reportedly avoid paying residuals on these removed shows, that likely won’t offset the costs of creating them in the first place.
Instead, if Disney wanted to continue to profit off of their since-removed Disney+ they could look to put the shows on third party services such as Roku or Tubi. This strategy would be a shift for Disney, but put the company more in line with other streaming services.

While we may not know Disney’s plans for its removed Disney+ series, the release of “American Born Chinese” on multiple platforms could be a harbinger of things to come.
