Zoe Saldana Responds to ‘Avatar 5’ Postponement
Amid the widespread reshuffling of Disney’s release calendar, came the news that “Avatar 3″would be delayed until 2025. Originally slated for a 2024 release, the film’s delay was blamed on the intense CGI requirement for each installment of James Cameron’s blockbuster franchise.
In accordance with Avatar 3’s new release date, the franchise’s subsequent sequels were accordingly pushed back. “Avatar 5” is now aiming for a 2031 release date.
Zoe Saldana’s Response
Franchise star Zoe Saldana, who portrays the alien Neytiri, was quick to note on her Instagram story how long the gap between Cameron’s first ‘Avatar’ and the supposed final installment will be.
After noting the new date on her Instagram story, Saldana wrote the caption “Great! I’m gonna be 53 when the last ‘Avatar’ comes out.”
She added: “I was 27 when I shot the very first ‘Avatar.’
Jon Landau’s Explanation
In response to the announcement, ‘Avatar’ producer Jon Landau explained that filmmakers needed more time to create the kind of quality product that fans have come to expect.
“Each ‘Avatar’ film is an exciting but epic undertaking that takes time to bring to the quality level we as filmmakers strive for and audiences have come to expect. The team is hard at work and can’t wait to bring audiences back to Pandora in December 2025.”
The first ‘Avatar’ film was released in 2009, and would eventually become the highest-grossing film of all time. Thirteen years later, the franchise continued its unprecedented success with 2022’s “Avatar: The Way of Water”.
If Avatar 5 hits its 2031 release date, the franchise will have spanned 22 years between five releases.
