Welcome back to our continuing journey through Disney’s past. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- June 14.
June 14th was a massive day for Disneyland, with the opening of five different attractions! So, let’s get started!
Disneyland’s Columbia Opens (1958)
On this day in 1958, Disneyland’s Columbia ship opened on the Rivers of America.
A full-scale version of the first ship to carry the American flag around the world, the Columbia would take guests on a leisurely trip around the Rivers of America.
Alice in Wonderland Opens (1958)
Also on this day in 1958, Disneyland’s Alice in Wonderland attraction opened.
The dark ride attraction let guests follow the White Rabbit down the Rabbit Hole and into Wonderland.
Disneyland’s Monorail Dedicated (1959)
On this day in 1959, Disneyland’s monorail was officially dedicated.
On hand for the festivities were Walt Disney and Vice President Richard Nixon.
Disneyland’s Matterhorn Opens (1959)
Also on this day in 1959, Disneyland’s Matterhorn Bobsleds opened.
The park’s first roller coaster, the Matterhorn takes guests on a high-speed adventure through the Swiss Alps.
Submarine Voyage Dedicated (1959)
Finally, also on this day in 1959, The Submarine Voyage was officially dedicated in Tomorrowland.
Although the attraction had been operating since June 6, Walt Disney officially christened the Nautilus on this day.
Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue Debuts (1974)
On this day in 1974, the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue debuted at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground.
Performed inside Pioneer Hall, the dinner show would become a staple of the resort.
Dick Tracy Premiers (1990)
On this day in 1990, Dick Tracy premiered at Walt Disney World’s Pleasure Island.
The film starred Warren Beatty as the titular private investigator.
Tarzan II Released (2005)
On this day in 2005, Disney’s Tarzan II was released on home video.
A sequel to the 1999 animated classic, the film featured the voices of Harrison Chad, George Carlin, Brad Garrett, Ron Perlman, Estelle Harris, and Glenn Close.
Typhoon Lagoon Helps Set Record (2011)
On this day in 2011, guests at Typhoon Lagoon set the Guinness World Record for World’s Largest Swimming Lesson.
More than 900 facilities around the world participated in the event, which hosted an estimated 30,000 participants.
Just Roll With It Premieres (2019)
On this day in 2019, Just Roll With premiered on the Disney Channel.
The show combined improv comedy with a family sitcom, and give the live studio audience a chance to set the direction of key scenes.
T.O.T.S. (Tiny Ones Transport Service) Debuts (2019)
On this day in 2019, T.O.T.S. (Tiny Ones Transport Service) debuted on Disney Junior.
The show told the story of Pip the penguin and Freddy the flamingo who are delivery birds in training.
