Welcome back to our continuing trip through Disney’s past. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- May 19.
May 19th was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured the first-ever television cartoon, the opening of a Disneyland attraction, and also the premiere of a Pirates of the Caribbean Movie. So, let’s get going!
Gulliver Mickey Released (1934)
On this day in 1934, Gulliver Mickey was released.
In the cartoon, Mickey enthralls his nephews with a retelling of Gulliver’s Travels.
Donald’s Cousin Gus Released (1939)
On this day in 1939, the Donald Duck cartoon Donald’s Cousin Gus was released
The cartoon was the first cartoon to be broadcast on an American TV station.
Primitive Pluto Released (1950)
On this day in 1950, the Pluto cartoon Primitive Pluto was released.
In the cartoon, the sound of wolves howling reminds Pluto of his primitive instincts.
Pollyanna Released (1960)
On this day in 1960, Pollyanna was released.
The film starred Hayley Mills, Jane Wyman, and Karl Malden. The movie told the story of an orphaned child who comes to live with her dour Aunt Polly Harrington.
Dave Crockett’s Explorer Canoes Opens (1971)
On this day in 1971, Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes opened in Disneyland.
The free-floating canoe experience replaced the Indian War Canoes.
Dinosaur Released (2000)
On this day in 2000, Dinosaur was released.
The film followed the adventures of an Iguanodon named Aladar who gets separated from his own species.
Mission: Space Green Team Opens (2006)
On this day in 2006, Mission: Space Green Team opened to guests.
The less-intense version of the attraction was created in response to guest feedback.
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End Premieres (2007)
On this day in 2007, a gala premiere for Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End took place at Disneyland.
On hand for the festivities was Johnny Depp.
Star vs. the Forces of Evil Airs (2019)
Finally, on this day in 2019, Disney’s Star vs. the Forces of Evil aired its final episode.
The Disney XD series followed the adventures of Star Butterfly, a young heir to the royal throne of Mewni.
