This Day in Disney History- February 27
Welcome back to our magical journey through Disney’s past. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history-February 27!
February 27th featured the birth of a Disney Legend, the dedication of a Disneyland ride, and the debut of a Disney XD sitcom. So, let’s get going!
Rolly Crump is Born (1930)
On this day in 1930, Roland Fargo “Rolly” Crump was born.
Rolly first joined Walt Disney Studios in 1952 and worked on films such as Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp and Sleeping Beauty.
In 1959, Crump joined WED Enterprises where he helped create The Haunted Mansion and the Enchanted Tiki Room. He also helped design the Tower of the Four Winds marquee for it’s a small world at the 1964 World’s Fair.
After leaving Disney in 1970, Crump returned to the company in 1976, where he set out to work on EPCOT Center. Crump would instrumental in the creation of The Land and The Wonders of Life pavilions.
Adventures of Chip ‘n Dale Aired (1959)
On this day in 1959, Walt Disney Presents “The Adventures of Chip ‘n Dale” aired.
In the episode, Walt leaves a message saying that he will be unable to host the show in person this week. He instead has Chip ‘n Dale fill in as guest hosts.
Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye Is Dedicated (1995)
On this day in 1995, Michael Eisner and George Lucas dedicated Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye at Disneyland.
The attraction would eventually open to the public on March 3.
Hong Kong Disneyland Announces Tomorrowland Expansion (2006)
On this day in 2006, Hong Kong Disneyland announced plans to add three new attractions to the park as part of a Tomorrowland expansion.
New attractions included an Autopia, Stitch Encounter and the UFO Zone.
Muppet Mobile Labs Debuts At California Adventure (2007)
On this day in 2007, the Muppet Mobile Lab appeared at Disney California Adventure.
The roaming Audio-Animatronic featured Beeker and Dr. Bunsen from the Muppets interacting with guests.
Dorothea Redmond Passes Away (2009)
On this day in 2009, Disney Legend Dorothea Redmond passed away at age 98.
Redmond joined WED Enterprises in 1964, where she helped work on elements of Disneyland. She would be best remembered for her work at the Magic Kingdom however, where she was the creative force behind Fantasyland and parts of Main Street USA. Redmond also designed the mosaic murals inside Cinderella Castle.
Lab Rates Premieres (2012)
On this day in 2012, Lab Rats premiered on Disney XD.
The sitcom followed the adventures of a group of bionic teens who attempt to live like a normal family in the fictional town of Mission Creek, California.
