Ron DeSantis Signs Disney Monorail Inspection Law
Amid a slew of other bills, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a measure today that will give the Florida Department of Transportation oversight of the Walt Disney World monorail system.
The bill would require the Florida DOT to be complete compliance records for the monorail every three years and conduct annual onsite evaluations.

Previously, Disney and other large theme parks conducted their own safety inspections due to a carve-out from oversight by the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
Part of a Larger Battle
The monorail bill comes as both The Walt Disney Company and the DeSantis administration prepare for what is expected to be an elongated court battle.

Disney sued the DeSantis administration in federal court, arguing that the state’s policies regarding the former Reedy Creek Improvement District were retaliatory.
In an amended suit filed earlier this week, Disney included the state’s monorail bill in their filing.

Iger Comments On Feud With Florida
When asked about the ongoing feud with Florida, Disney CEO Bob Iger was clear that the company’s position was that the latest laws passed by the DeSantis administration were simply retaliatory.
“First of all, if the case that we filed last month, we made our position and the facts very clear, and that’s really that this is about one thing and one thing only and that’s retaliating against us for taking a position about pending legislation.”
In the end, these issues will be decided in a court of law. For now, however, the Florida government will oversee Walt Disney World monorail inspections.
