Some may argue that The Russo Brothers left a larger fingerprint on the current state of the studio, but their impact is more relative to their story choices, as opposed to their directing acumen and influential style.
Gunn’s trademark style on Guardians has been his use of nostalgic 80’s music that fits seamlessly with his brand of constant humor, and a very present and real heartbeat that audiences can invest in.

This style has been replicated heavily by other highly successful Marvel projects; with Thor Ragnarok bringing the same brand of brilliance in humor and nostalgic 80’s music, and Loki itself bringing a similar feeling in how they use music, comedy, and stakes.
It was a very public scandal that forced Disney to readjust Gunn’s role in the MCU; with Guardians Vol. 3 coming at some point in the near future, however, it appears that the filmmaker and the company have reached an understanding on the incident and Gunn’s growth from it.

Using his time off from Disney to write and direct the newest Suicide Squad film at Warner Brothers, Gunn becomes the first director to work for companies that use both Marvel and DC intellectual properties.
This fact becomes even more interesting when we consider that Gunn did approach both companies about joining forces sometime in the near future.

The joining of the two massive universes, the idea of Captain America and Superman fighting alongside Doctor Strange and Batman would absolutely shatter every conception of what’s possible in today’s cinematic landscape.
What do you think? Could Marvel and DC join forces and provide a blockbuster epic the likes the world has never seen? Or should competition preserver for the benefit of us moviegoers?
