‘Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’ Took Inspiration From Steven Spielberg
The Mandalorian universe is set to expand in all kinds of new ways, with the upcoming releases of Ahsoka and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.
While Ahsoka will seemingly follow the road of The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, Skeleton Crew will be forging its own path.
In a recent interview with Empire, Jon Favreau revealed that when creating the upcoming series, Jon Watts and Chris Ford were aiming for a very specific tone.
Taking Inspiration From Spielberg
Apparently, Watts and Ford wanted the show to feel like a Steven Spielberg or Amblin Entertainment movie.
In an interesting twist of fate, the duo was actually able to pitch the idea to Amblin Entertainment co-founder and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.
“With Kathy Kennedy running Lucasfilm, when Jon Watts and Chris Ford came in and talked about wanting to do something that feels like an Amblin movie and has that tone, it’s like you’re speaking right to the person who was there and knows the 11 herbs and spices that go into it,” Favreau explained. “So it’s interesting hearing them pitch it and how she reacts to that.”
For those who don’t know Amblin Entertainment was founded by Steven Spielberg, Kathleen Kennedy, and Frank Marshall. The company is responsible for movies such as E.T., Gremlins, and The Goonies.
What Is Star Wars: Skeleton Crew
Skeleton Crew will take place after the events of Return of the Jedi. The show will follow the story of four kids who end up on an adventure in space.
The show is scheduled to debut on Disney+ later this year.
